awesome book
Inkheart is a captivating and imaginative story that transports readers to a world where books come to life. The plot revolves around a young girl named Meggie and her father Mo, a bookbinder with a unique talent for bringing characters from books into the real world. The characters are well-developed and complex, with realistic flaws and strengths. Meggie is a relatable protagonist, struggling to understand the secrets her father has kept from her and trying to navigate the dangerous world of Inkheart. Mo is a fascinating character, haunted by his past and grappling with the consequences of his actions. What I love most about this book is its vivid descriptions of the settings and characters. The world-building is rich and immersive, with detailed descriptions of the magical elements that bring the story to life. The writing style is engaging and lyrical, making it a pleasure to read. The plot is full of twists and turns, keeping the reader engaged and eager to turn the page. The themes of family, love, and sacrifice are explored in a thoughtful and thought-provoking way, adding depth and complexity to the story.Overall, I highly recommend Inkheart to anyone looking for a captivating and well-written fantasy novel. It is a must-read for fans of the genre, and will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.

Fantastical and fantastic!
I enjoyed this book very much. It is full of fantastical beings and events that interface with everyday modern people. That interface is the most compelling underlying motivation of the story, of course. I also like the fact that the main child character is female for a change. Yea!The book is also, in a sense, all about books, and I love books about books. If you have a fairly good knowledge of classic children's literature, you'll enjoy those connections immensely. If you like books, particularly children's books, and you like fantasy and adventure, you will probably enjoy this book.Quotations are used from many other children's and fantasy books. Those make the story even more enjoyable. The writing is creative and interesting, the plot is fantastical and convoluted, the characters are varied and mostly interesting, sometimes likable and sometimes detestable, of course. Some characters aren't clearly good guys or bad guys, which is similar to life as we know it.On the down side, which is minor, I am wondering just who this book was written for. I'm told it's children's literature. But children do not need to read about this much violence, surely, even when it is committed mostly by beings from books rather than reality? I don't know. I also find some plot twists to be very unbelievable, but it is a fantasy, after all.I read this book on the Kindle (as I read most books) and only noticed one potential typo in the book (which is amazingly good, really).

Very detailed, unique and great story
What a great story! This is quite the page-turner! I was driven to read more by both the action/adventure and the plot/conclusion. Both are excellently written! Funke's style of writing (and indeed the translation made by Anthea Bell) makes for a smooth and beautiful read.Wonderfully drawn and very detailed characters fill this book from cover to cover, each character being unique and complete. The story is told from multiple viewpoints, which adds another interesting dimension to the story and plot. The book doesn't contain many light-hearted chapters (as you would find in Harry Potter or Narnia) but the wonderful lead characters are such good people that the book is far from dark. The whole idea of the story is beautiful and intriguing! And the quotes that begin each chapter are perfectly chosen.I kept wondering if there were areas that Funke could have taken out to make the book shorter - but I couldn't really find anything that wouldn't mar the story in some way, and I was grateful there were as many pages to read as there were!A wonderful read and an interesting story that I think has become a new favorite!

One of my Favorite Books!
I know this is intended as a children's book, but it's one where the intended reader is not talked down to. It's not just for children, but for adults, too. If you want a book to read to your kid that won't bore you, this and the sequels are great for that! The premise of the book is that it's possible for someone who reads really well, and who reads aloud extremely well to read out loud SO well that the story they're reading not only feels like it comes alive, but that the story and the whole universe actually DOES come alive, and the universe in the book touches this one, and the characters in the book can move into our universe, and people from here can move into the books. In the story, Mo is one of these excellent readers, and one night, while reading an adventure story to his wife and baby daughter, he accidently brings some characters out of the book. Only later does he realize that his wife has disappeared!Even worse, adventure stories may be exciting to read about, but would be very unpleasant to live through, and the characters he lets into this universe are not all ones you'd like to be friends with. The story is told from the viewpoint of the baby, about 11 years after her mom's disappearance, and develops into a fantastical adventure story of her own, along with Mo, her aunt, and some friends.Cornelia Funke writes a story that comes alive and seems to dance off the pages of the book and into your heart.Don't miss Inkspell and Inkdeath, too!

If I could give it a million stars I’d do it in a heartbeat
This book. THIS.BOOK.It was my favourite as a child. My absolute favourite and I’m so happy to have it again—especially in this stunning edition. Despite being a children’s book, I feel like the writing is so beyond that. It’s gorgeous, and Cornelia Funke is an absolute master of storytelling. I admit, I was scared, being in my 20’s now, that this book wouldn’t live up to my memories and that I’d surpassed being part of the audience for it. That it would read too young.No. It seems I was worrying for nothing. Inkheart is SO accessible and has such rich, vivacious writing I struggled to put it down and stop reading. If you’re going to buy anything anytime soon, please let it be this. You won’t be disappointed.
