Q: Hi my son hates sleeping in the dark - looking for a faint camping light - does this have a moonlight type mode that would last for hours pls

No moonlight, the light as 7 modes, cool white, bright and not as bright. Still to bright for your needs. It's the same with the warm white lights two modes. The other two modes being red lights, nearly forgot the extra mode being really bright light after long press on switch. The light is usefull for about an hour? After which it will need charging. It WILL NOT work while charging. Other than that the light you do get is brilliant and bright. It's only a small battery.

Q: Does this stay in one lighting mode or do you have to cycle through all of them each time you turn it on?

You switch it on and each button press after that makes it cycle to the mode you want. When you switch it off it just returns to the start of that cycle.

Q: How long does the battery last?

I used it for a full night hike in blinking mode and it lasted the full hike.
