I have studied and taught US foreign policy for 25 years. This is probably the worst summary that I have seen in that entire stretch of time. The book's core problem is that it ignores and excludes critical events as well as misplacing others that would give context to events and decisions. The road to 9/11 is particularly indicative of this trend, and it appears to have been done purposefully to avoid clouding a politically charged narrative. Events such as the bombing of the USS Cole are excluded, as are the first WTC bombing and attacks on military personnel in Saudi Arabia, and other events such as the attacks in Kenya and Tanzania are poorly connected to larger events. This selective memory, combined with highlighting less significant events, makes this a poor choice for a textbook.
