this is an awesome piece of equipment
if you have read my review on the Genmitsu 4040pro max, then you will know that I wanted a genmitsu machine because they look much more sturdy than all the other desktop ones on the market. unfortunately the pro max had some issues that I wasn't prepared to address, so I returned it. this one came on sale and I snapped it up. be wary, this machine is very large and weighs 60kg. I am in my 60's, so dragging it around the house when it arrived was fun. this is even easier to set up than the pro max but does take up nearly 3ft square. It is on my dining room table. wow what a lovely piece of equipment. there was an issue when I built it, the wiring did not match the configuration as shown in the manual. I was wary of the last units issues so did not want to run it without first consulting Sainsmart. they replied the very next day with pictures of how it should be wired and mine matched their configuration. I installed the software and as before the unit would not run. I ditched the software (UGS and Candle) and downloaded GCode sender. this connected straight away. I fired it up like a giggling school girl and watched it home itself. I couldn't wait to try it out and put in the first piece of scrap wood. I have to say that because I know nothing about cnc machines, I made an aweful lot of stupid mistakes, like not setting the x,y, or z axis to zero before starting the projects. I broke my first bit within seconds when I tried to jog the z axis down straight into the board. I will say that there is a very steep learning curve but if you look on YouTube at James Dean Designs and IDC Woodcraft you will find a lot of information. one of the issues that I had was that all the free software that comes with the machine carved perfectly however if you then try to design and run your own from VCarve on their trial period, they will not let you and if you want to run it from Easel you will find that your spindle will not spin. thanks to James Dean Design he shows you how to make all this work properly. trust me when I say, at the moment, what an awesome piece of equipment. if you need to learn more then check out youtube or talk direct to Sainsmart. have plenty of scrap wood available and buy a box of cheap bits. many hours of fun and as a last note I watched my smart meter whilst the oval carve was running at over 5 hours for a grand total of 20 pence.

The help I received was second to none.
This machine is absolutely brilliant. At first it was way over my head. I’d just retired and this was something I’ve always wanted to get in to. So I spent £1700 on the 6050, what an amazing machine. I had a few teething problems at first but the team at the end of the email couldn’t do enough. They sent out a new mother board when I and them couldnt get the “X” and “Y” to run properly. Being new to it all and only watching you tube videos it took time to understand how it worked, grbl was an alien language. I even bought a new trim router before it arrived, but the spindle it comes with is more than adequate. As it says by its title, it’s big. The working area is 60cm X 50cm but you can add on another 20 cm on the side to accommodate clearance. It’s noisy when using large bits (6mm end mill) and I have housed it in a Perspex cabinet in my garage to try to quieten it down. But overall I love it, it’s a great machine.

No customer care from Sainsmart
After spending £1500 on this item, its main board decided it didn’t want to work after 3 weeks! Yes, 3 weeks! The manufacturer was unhelpful and that’s being polite. The instruction manual is flawed in so many ways, but the connectors between the motors and the drive system aren’t even mentioned in the manual and yet they drive the gantry to make it work! Ridiculous in the extreme. Sainsmart wanted to have me wait 4 weeks for a replacement to fit myself, I’m not an electronics engineer, that’s their responsibility not mine. All in all I was going buy the same one again, but Sainsmart showed zero interest in the issue being resolved to MY satisfaction.

No ethernet connectivity
"Connectivity technology Ethernet" - yet the machine only supports USB.
