Alginates are hydrophilic polysaccharides which means they are polymers of carbohydrates and can absorb water. High Absorbency & Concentration of Silver When the dressing is dry, the alginate fibers (in a predetermined ratio of mannuronic and glucuronic acid forms) compose the majority of weight of the dressing.
