Weak-link to the Best Large-Capacity Residential Coffee Maker
The Technivorm Grand is the best large capacity brewer out there. I had a Tech 40oz and ordered the Grand the day the 64oz hit the US market. The ability to manage the drip-stop is key to manipulating the brew to your liking. However, the drip-stop stopper design is so very fragile and exposed to constant impact. This is our third brew-basket. It could easily be our thirtieth, but for in-between replacements I use a carefully folded up paper towel wedged between the metal drip tab - messy but it works. You see, the rubber drip-stop piece on the bottom is held in place by a thin rubber nipple (see photo). That little piece of rubber gets clipped each and every time the basket gets slid onto the machine. Worse yet, the trusty household hand dishwasher has a habit of moving fast, and has managed to clip the stopper of the last to brew baskets. But as you can see from the photo, there's not much holding that stopper on - it's a poor design for an otherwise spectacular machine. I tired of the paper towel stopper and ordered this third basket. Back when I ordered the second basket I had contacted TechV directly and asked them if they had a replacement stopper (no) or fixed the design (did not have an answer). When I received this third one, I see that it is the same weak stopper. As a preventative measure, I have run a bead of food grade silicone around the back side of the stopper - so on the metal and up the exposed rubber. This pennies modification 'should' protect it from hand washing accidents.

Leaks worse than the one I replaced
I bought this to replace my original filter basket that I've had for about 6 years now. The reason I replaced it was because the pause and serve feature was broken. This one doesn't look broken, but it doesn't seal the hole entirely when you pull the lever so it makes a mess just like the broken one did.. I should have kept what I had instead of spending $30.
