I put mine on and err is displayed all the time no matter what angle or surface i am on. i have also changed the batteries but no change. please help

I have the 10 inch digital level and also get the "err" message. I have tried everything including replacing the batteries. I didn't have a users manual included with mine so am really in the dark. Please pist if you find an answer.
