We suggest you wash it before start to use. You can use the cleanning brush which is included to wash thermal coffee carafe with soap and water.

Q: Can you use this directly on the stove top to heat?

No. It's a thermal carafe. You can only put hot or cold liquid inside. Should not be place on a hot surface.

Opening is small like most carafe, no filter goes in mine
