Super, super
Super, super, super product. Sound is super and connection is seamless, I love the bass. I love mostly the fact that it can play files on USB. I play a lot of classical music which sometimes I am not sure whose work it is. The display on this product does this job as it displays information about the song being played. Ability to scroll/ skip folders means you do not have to skip hundreds of files individually to get to the songs of choice. Overall this product is in a class of its own, the only let down is lack of internal battery. In this way memory of last songs and song positions could be retained and resumed, which is important especially when playing from the USB. The set does this, but this is lost once the system is unplugged from the mains. I however get round this by having rechargeable batteries in the battery compartment all the time. However you lose this memory even with batteries on when the cable is plugged into the set before disconnecting from mains. I love this product in its many amazing functions and sound in its small compact size.

Value for money
I bought this as a replacement for an ageing Sharp unit which has lived in my garage for longer than I care to remember. I was looking for something which had a radio and the ability to play MP3's via USB. I can only assume that there is a diminishing demand for this type of unit as there isn't a massive choice out there. I chose this one as it had a good spec for the money, having USB, DAB/FM radio, line input, CD player, Bluetooth connectivity and NFC which is useful for a quick connection if your smartphone has this facility and you use it to store music. In addition, I have a number of other Sony products which have been totally reliable. My initial concern when the box arrived was the lightness. This was way lighter than I was expecting. On unpacking it I was surprised that it was smaller than anticipated. As I examined it I was already starting to think that this was not what I was looking for. The carrying handle when folded out from its flush position was hollow at the rear and had a cheap and nasty feel. I decided it was going back. Curious as to the sound quality I plugged it in and was surprised. It really was very good. I plugged in a memory stick, the files appeared on the LCD display, sounded good! Checked out the DAB and provided the adjustable aerial was correctly positioned found reception to be good and sound quality excellent. Ditto for FM. Haven't checked out the CD player as I don't tend to use them anymore. Anyway, on the basis of it's performance and the fact that it was only going to live in the garage I decided to keep it. Although the construction feels very lightweight, I entered the garage a week after buying it to find I had inadvertently locked the cat in overnight and it had knocked the unit off my toolbox, a height of about 5 feet onto concrete. It was lying upside down and, fearing the worst, I gave it the once over. Amazingly, nothing was broken or cracked, just a couple of tiny scratches and everything still worked so, tougher than it looks. The only reason I am giving it four stars - I really hate the flimsy handle. If you don't move it around a lot this isn't an issue, speaking of which, forgot to mention it does take batteries as well as mains, also the LCD isn't backlit. Finally, as Sony have discovered that swiping your phone over the NFC connector on the top of the unit will scratch it they have provided a sticky backed piece of vinyl to stick on your new purchase. No doubt achieves the object but should have thought about that at the design stage. Don't have to use it if you don't use NFC though. So, to sum up, provides a lot of choice regarding how to listen to music in one convenient package and you won't be disappointed by the sound quality.**UPDATE October 2016**Switched on today and unit is dead. Disappointing for a Sony product. Would have expected more than two and a half years from it.

Superb Sony!!
I bought this Sony Radio/CD Player for my wife. She is a technophobe and does not like complicated gadgets! The Sony gives her the opportunity to listen to her CD's anywhere in the house and also to DAB Radio - we are 3 miles from the Digital 1 DAB Transmitter in Whitby so reception is excellent! The Sony is a really first rate product - excellent build, fit and finish, and exemplary sound ( I would recommend keeping MEGABASS switched ON.) There is just one slight annoyance - the instructions state that the Radio will automatically scan for DAB Radio Stations when first switched on IT DOES NOT!! The message DAB OFF AIR comes up on the Screen. I tried to do a Manual Scan, but it would not!! I saw the ENTER Button on the Unit, so I pushed the RADIO Button again and scrolled to Initial Scan, and pressed the ENTER Button. Lo and Behold the DAB Scan started and stored all the available stations in order. I saved BBC Radio 2,3, 4, and BBC Tees as well as Classic FM to the presets. The Sound Quality on all stations, and CD, is fantastic . I recommend the Sony DAB Boombox unreservedly, and Amazon's service - as always - was outstanding. If you are looking for a DAB/FM Radio CD Player, this is the one to go for - it has been an excellent purchase!! As always, if DAB is important to you, check coverage in your area before buying any DAB portable.

Good but irritating in several ways
Following many months of experience, I'd repeat the negatives reported by other users. The inability to play ripped CD tracks from a usb stick is a major annoyance*. The whole radio station selection and preset process is awful. First mistake was to mount it on a shelf (in my garage/workshop) and the overall design demands you have to look down on it to see the LCD display. The buttons and their tiny lables are very hard to read. The power input plug & lead sticks out too far at the back meaning the unit can't be pushed back against a wall.Yet I have no quibbles about the sound quality for where it's used.*It links perfectly via the Sony app on my Android phone for copied music replay so why won't Sony let me use a usb stick to do this???? However the usb socket doesn't provide charge so another mains socket is taken up to keep the phone charged up.Overall, after prolonged, daily usage, it's a good system let down by poor design for the user but versatile and good value nevertheless.
