Does it fit on a petzl ventex helmet with the original band? or is it necessary to use other extension bands, etc?

Yes it fits, it also has the option of not using the band and directly inserting into the helmet.

Will the mounting plate work with other helmets, or just Petzl?

The mounting plate that comes with the Pixa 3 only works with Petzl Helmet. We have other mount plates for different helmets and hardhats
