Landmann DIY Charcoal Barbecue

It is really good value, the instructions are also easy to follow. I used some old block paving bricks which are different dimensions to normal bricks so had to make some adjustments to the plan. I'm no bricky, not by any stretch of the imagination and I managed it. The only slight complaint is that the ash tray is a bit flimsy, it has already bowed quite badly with only one use. I have a cunning plan to fix it. I'm going to cut the box section steel supports out of my old bbq and use them to support the lower tray. Other than that, this is a great buy.

Finally built the bbq! Tested this kit out last weekend and does the job fine. The charcoal grid is high enough from the hearth (base) to allow for air to circulate and ash to fall in which is good because it burns hot, and coals that burn twice as hot burn half as long! However, there is no way to remove the ash in use without removing the hearth as its edges fold in against the length (to stop the ash spilling over). So not sure how marathon bbq's would fair (yet). Also after first (and so far only) use there was some warpage on both the grid and hearth from the sheer heat. In addition some of the powder coating had come off the grid. I'm not expecting this to be an issue - hopefully it has bedded in now and won't warp further but it does mean this kit could not be left exposed to the elements as I reckon it would rust fairly quickly. I put mine back in the box after use and store under the prep area. The grill is fine - not top quality stainless steel you get on a Webber but chrome plated by the looks of it but at this price that is fine. So long as I'm not too harsh with the wire brush and, again don't leave it out too long, it should last a few summers. Here's hoping the fine weather continues! Cheers

Bought this as a replacement set for the worn out previous BBQ set (well used, one careful owner!). Measured the existing kit first and this matched it perfectly into my brick built BBQ. Very sturdy and the bottom tray is holding up well so far and not buckling like the last set I bought some year, had to replace bottom tray with home made iron tray. I have previously bought the portable cast iron BBQ from Landmann for the caravan so new it would be good quality. Great price as well. Cannot fault it. Get BBQ'ing.

I've only used it twice so far this season, very very hard to clean. First time was ok after it's use, but second time you can see the materials are starting to flake. Regardless we had 2 very good bbqs which were great fun.

Already had the BBQ fitted by a previous owner, the old ash grate and tray had corroded after 15 years. This replacement item fitted perfectly on the previous brick built stand.

The picture here and on the box is a bit disturbing. I wouldn’t recommend using ‘block paving’ bricks to build a barbecue, nor would I recommend building a brick structure this high without securing it with mortar! Following the instructions (with mortar!), it’s quite high but ideal for garden chefs in the region of 5’10 as our old barbecue always gave me backache! The mortar I used was 1 part cement and 4 parts sand, and for estimation (because it depends how much you use for each brick) I used a whole standard sized bag of cement. In use, it works very well. I installed the support bricks as pictured in the image here and on the box (centrally positioned so they stick out on both sides) rather than in the instructions (flush from the outside with half the brick sicking out on the inside). I attempted to follow the instructions but the physics were all wrong and as soon as I put another brick on top, the weight of the overhang was too great. Now that we’re using it, I’m glad I didn’t persevere and make the outside flush because the larger overhang inside would have made it more difficult to move the position of the grill rack during use. The poor instructions and images have lost this 5-star product one star because if the structure isn’t right, it’s not going to be a 5-star product!!

Purchased to replace our 10 year old original Landmann identical purchase. But since our brick build assy is now 25 years old it has always had a Landmann kit fitted into it. During any ideal times for a BBQ this was used up to 3 times a week, so over 10 years had seen a lot of use and a lot of TLC in its upkeep. Finally the base charcoal tray and the charcoal grid had become badly rusted up, BUT the top cooking grid whilst a bit distorted and discoloured was in perfect condition. So we specifically purchased another Landmann, and the quality of the build is as good as it was 10 years ago, nothing cheap about this unlike lots of other items where corners have been cut reducing that quality. For us, another 10 years of happy BBQ days and nights, and whilst the bottom charcoal bits have been recycled, that top cooking grid is still in use.

Completo di griglie è la base per il mio nuovo barbecue . La lamiera di cui è costituito è troppo leggera e con il calore si deforma leggermente a barca . Comunque utile per non mettere a contatto la base del barbecue con la brace.
