MISLEADING
I bought this thinking it was the ultimate guide to heavy metal appearing in movies (what DESTROY ALL MOVIES was to punk). It is not. For example it includes 'STAR WARS', which is about as Heavy Metal as 'MY LEFT FOOT', - anything and everything appears to be thrown into the book as being relevant to 'heavy metal'. WTF? I read the review of my favourite film 'TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE' - it states TCM was Tobe Hooper's directorial debut (it wasn't), then it gives an account of what happens in the film, only it describes things that don't happen in the film - Pam does not see Kirk have his head bashed in, for example, because she is outside when it happens. Did he even watch the film?

Horns way up for Heavy Metal movies!
Absolutely essential Book for the Bog! So much great stuff included from all standpoints of what defines a "heavy metal movie". Plenty of what you'd expect (Flight 666 et al, Wizards, Conan, Fulci movies, etc.), plenty of what you wouldn't expect (Fantasia, Star Wars, Munster Go Home, etc.), very little of what seems to be missing (ok, I'll put in my 2 bits here: "The Black Cat" from 1934: Karloff, Lugosi, Crowley/devil worship, necrophilia, flaying...very metal). Fun and enthusiastic writing, cool layout.

Un compendio MUY amplio que abarca desde las películas más comerciales como "Wayne's World" hasta joyas de culto como "Rocktober Blood" y "Terror On Tour".

I'd give this six stars if that was an option
This needs to be said up front- I'm NOT a big fan of rock n roll in general and I particularly dislike heavy metal. I'm also not that into trashy post 1970 B movies. I brought this book anyway because I've followed this writers career for several decades and knew that with a talent like his the 'what' he's writing about isn't nearly as important as the 'how' he does it. Mcbeardo is a rare talent these days- his insights range from insanely hilarious to seriously thought provoking, but are always unique and all his own. Every word rings true with the sincerity of a guy who really did sit down and watch every damn movie in this book with his own two eyes and makes you want to do the same. No matter what kind of movies you like- if you like movies at all- you will love this book.

Mcpadden is as smart, funny and perceptive as anyone writing about movies today.
I bought Heavy Metal Movies expecting plot summaries and a bunch of stills, posters and VHS covers from obscure exploitation flicks. I could not have been more wrong. In an Incredibly wide-ranging and insightful survey of film, Mcpadden defines a distinct genre of lurid intensity that encompasses Frankenhooker, Seventh Seal, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Night Of The Hunter and Hardbodies. Just thumbing through and seeing the titles included simultaneously surprises and makes perfect sense. A terrific writer. he effortlessly weaves personal experience with cultural significance and astute criticism. He keys into their pleasures and flaws with precision and economy, and has a keen eye for vivid and epitomizing details.

Already Know it's gonna be good!!!
I just received my book today and at just a glance, I have to give it 5 stars! This book reminds me of the book released in 1998 called VIDEO HOUNDS HORROR SHOW! This book is about the same size as that one was. Not as many pics as VIDEO HOUND, but it will serve as an update to that book! Reviews are funny and informative and overall I would say that Mike McPadden did a really good job! Maybe in 10 years, he can do another update on Horror Pictures!

Heavy Metal Movies is a ROCKIN' GOOD TIME!!
I LOVE this book! It was soooo worth the money, since it is chock full of goodness...and by goodness, I mean if you are a lover of everything and anything heavy metal (especially in horror and cult films), then this is the book for you! It was so heavy and huge when it arrived in the mail, I couldn't believe how thick it is and as I thumbed through it, I knew it was going to give me hours of entertaining reading material. With descriptions and reviews of movies such as 'Black Roses', 'Roctober Blood', 'Heavy Metal Parking Lot, 'Trick or Treat' etc etc...it is such a fun read! Some movies you may know, some you may have never heard of! So this book is a wonderful guide to the world of obscure cinema. I can guarantee you...you won't even be a quarter of the way through this book before you'll want to start looking up a lot of these titles (many are out-of-print, but can still be found at a decent price online or on youtube). So if you are searching for the next interesting read, I can't recommend this enough...especially to horror/metal fans! Long live them both!!

Very happy husband!
This was a Christmas gift for my husband, who is both a die-hard metal fan and movie fanatic. He was pleasantly surprised that he hadn't even heard of many of these movies, and then proceeded to search for them on Netflix and Amazon to view in the future.

"He Who Walks Behind The Rows" gives it two thumbs up.
McPadden really pulled it off in this book. I loved his previous project "If you Like Metallica..." which I read front to back in one sitting. He is at once a wordsmith and a font of knowledge on all things heavy metal and film, with a particularly unique and refreshing appreciation for some more absurd works. The book itself is gorgeous inside and out--I've got it on my coffee table. It is undoubtedly, and purposely, filled with many corny movies among the 666 touched on in the book, so I thought I might include a bit on 1984 horror film "Children of the Corn." McPadden writes of the famous antagonists Isaac and Malachi "Thanks to these two icons, 'Children of the Corn' remains an object of profound horror-metal affection. Isaac is a pint-size Elmer Gantry-cum-Jim Jones bedecked in Amish wear. John Franklin, who seems born to play the part, looks like a third-grader and a retirement-home grouch all at once, and he mesmerizes his flock and viewers at home when he preaches prophecies regarding the righteousness of spilling "outlander" blood. Malachi is Isaac's tall, gangly, bucktoothed enforcer with long red hair and a threatening way with a scythe...Truly, this is one gruesome twosome. Isaac brings the heavy; Malachi is all metal. 'Outlander! Outlander! We have your woman!' shouts Malachi, one of the great quotations of Heavy Metal Movies..."
