The LEGO® Movie [DVD] [2014]

Superheroes have been done movie wise. TV shows have been done. So what else can be turned into a movie? Toys and games!GI Joe and Battleship happened. The Monopoly movie didn't. But a movie based on Lego has.A movie based on a toy involving building blocks and toy figures.Some of certain generations will have fond memories of using their imagination with Lego sets that allowed them to build whatever they wanted. Some more recent generations can get lego sets that let them build fantastic things. If they follow the instructions properly.This movie could have been the latter. Safe and generic and corporate.But instead the film makers have come up with something that uses lego firmly in the former category.A work of imagination.Bad guy lord Business wants to rule the Lego world and run everything his way. The forces that stand against him are seemingly crushed. But prophecy dictates that a special person will save the world.Prophecy seems to indicate that person is Emmet. A very ordinary construction worker who is good at fitting in with the crowd. Caught up in the quest to save the day, can Emmet live up to expectations?This is one of those movies that works on different levels for different generations. The stunning and very detailed animation will grab the attention right from the off. Things proceed at chaotic pace after that. But there's always so much going on that it hooks. From great character comedy between all the leads - Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson in particular proving much more adept at this that you might have expected - to things happening in the background.Of particular note as well is Will Arnett, who voices the best movie Batman ever. A Batman rather in love with his own image.It may seem chaotic plot wise at times, and there may be times when it might not seem to make sense in that respect. But hang on in there, because it does know exactly what it's doing in regards to that. You'll see.The central message of the movie, like lots of animations aimed at all ages, is about individuality and being yourself. It never hammers this home. And it's also smart enough to not get too sentimental. You'll see that as well.It does feature a song that you will not be able to get off your mind for a long time afterwards. But it's an awesome and cheerful song, so it's a good mood lifter.Do keep watching during the end credits for a full version of self penned Batman song that you only hear some of during the film.A truly awesome movie, and a whole lot of fun.The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, Hindi, Portugese.Subtitles: English, Portugese.The disc begins with an advert and a trailer, but you can skip both via the next button on the dvd remote.There are two extras:Everything is awesome sing along!: A three minute long video of the aforementioned song. Which also has karaoke lyrics for it. You won't be able to resist.Fan made films-top secret submissions: a three minute long feature, introduced by Chris Pratt [who voiced Emmet] showing some fan made lego films that the directors asked people to make, some of which got to be seen in the movie. They're all absolutely awesome as well.The box also contains a flyer with a code for downloading a copy of the movie to a digital device.

One of my very favorite films of 2014.What I worried would be a feature length commercial is instead a very funny, and somewhat subversive film, overflowing with ideas, puns, perfect music, and wacky 'cameos' by everyone from Shaquile O'Neil, to a wonderfully warped and dark Batman (given terrific voice by Will Arnet).'Lego' doesn't look quite like any film I've seen before. It has a rough, almost bizarrely low- tech look to it's Lego people -- stop motion that looks like stop motion --oddly (but very effectively) combined with mind-blowingly huge and complicated shots of the Lego universe in action. Somehow in the unlikely mix of slickness and lo-fi something wonderful is created; animation that is wildly impressive, but also clearly human, creative and DIY at the same time.The film is basically a spoof of every Hollywood vision-quest movie you've ever seen. You know the films. A young character (almost always male) is called on to save the world/neighborhood/kingdom. He's over-matched, and under prepared, but with a kindly older mentor of great power to guide him, you know he will find a way to prevail.Except here the "special" character at the center really ISN'T very special. He's a young working guy like a million others, who's not very bright or especially brave, and who just wants to live his happy, blank, endlessly repetitive safe life. And the mentor? None other than the voice of Morgan Freeman, expertly spoofing his own image as the ultimate voice of wisdom. He plays a wizard who is far less consistently brilliant and all knowing than he claims or wants to be. He's very, very funny, which is not the first thing one thinks of with Morgan Freeman. The same could be said of Liam Neeson, who also does a great voice job as the good cop/bad cop, who's personality changes depending on what side of his head is facing front. Will Ferrell is also excellent as the villain of the piece, being just silly enough to be funny, but just real enough to give the story some real tension.Not everything works, and there were a few spots near the end where the energy flagged. But overall this is an exciting and creative (and wonderfully fun) piece of film-making, that manages to attack the near fascist mentality of a society obsessed with consuming, and determined not to question it's own lives (it's not for nothing that the villain's name is 'President Business')-- while still being very funny, and almost never feeling like its preaching.And without giving anything away, in the last 20 minutes it changes the rules again, and asks a few profound questions about the nature of existence, without seeming like it had suddenly jumped the track as a film for kids as well as adults.In the end, I walked around with the hysterical, awful (in a great way), and when you think about it kinda dark anthem "Everything is Awesome" banging around in my head for days.

What an awesome movie. I really enjoyed this, and I'll tell you why:It was certainly unique. And it had something for pretty much everyone. With a good cast of characters, most people would find someone they could relate to, or be amused by. The story went along at a good pace, and you're sure to find some bits you missed if you watch it over again.Now, on the surface, the story may seem quite simple. Everyone lived in a world where they just do what everyone else does, they never have ideas, and they just follow the instructions that they're given [By the president of the world/bad guy, Lord buisness].But you find out that there are these master builders, and they were constantly breaking things up and rebuilding them into new things [This movie is one huge metaphor]. But the Lord buisness guy wanted everything to be perfect, and to stay the way it was. So he was planning to use his super weapon, the "kraggle" [which was a tube of Krazy glue, with some letters scratched out] to glue everything and everyone together, essentialy turning the whole world into one big display piece.So, it might sound to some like a silly kids movie.But it most definitly is not!A lot of people got different deep meanings from this movie. What I got was probably the idea of comparing the limtless possibilities of a childs optimistic outlook on life, to the harsh realities of becoming an adult.So the story was good. But so were a lot of other aspects.-The animation: It was beautifully animated, with so much going on. It was made to replicate the charm of one of those home made stop motion lego movies. And it looked so real, and pleasant to watch.-The voice acting: The cast was well chosen for this film, and all the characters were brought to life by the acting. I think the best one was Liam neeson as "Bad cop".-The music/sound: The music was good in this, and the sound complimented the effects well.All in all a great movie. But that doesn't mean that everyone will love, or even like it. It's just impossible to make a film that everyone loves. But this did recieve a lot of praise for critics and audiences alike.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Lego making a movie but the reviews were surprisingly good, I watched it when it was on TV the other year and throughly enjoyed it.It's fast, entertaining and the song 'everything is awesome' is contagious like 'It's a Small World' contagious so you're been warned.Why buy the DVD?My daughter informed me that it was currently my grandsons favourite movie so I sent for the DVD but every time I suggest watching it he says "no, dinosaurs" and this has been the case for weeks now. He still watches it at home but not here, here we watch dinosaurs so I've just unwrapped it and watched it myself and everything is awesome.

For me, the bar for animated movies is set by Pixar, and quite high it is set too. Every so often something comes along to get close to that bar but not much has got up there. In the last couple of years I would only have said Wreck it Ralph and Frozen troubled it at all; that is until now.Much like the Pixar offerings, there is a good appreciation of the differing ages of the audience, I love it, my kids love it, but we probably get different bits of it at times.As a visual piece of art this is a feast for the eyes. It is just what it says on the box, a movie done in Lego, but it works so brilliantly. The scale of it is incredible but there is such detail in it that you will still be spotting new things after many a viewing. And that is another great thing; my kids watch films over and over again, normally until I can't bring myself to look at the TV anymore. Well I don't mind admitting I must be on my eighth or ninth viewing now and wouldn't bat an eyelid if they slapped it on again right now. God knows where the kids are, probably into the thirties by now.The voice acting is excellent, I can't hear Morgan Freeman in anything else now without having a little smile to myself and just seeing Vitruvius in my head. The soundtrack is great too, there is one 'big number' in here and it does get used a fair bit so you might imagine it gets annoying but I still find it funny after so many times.The story is great too and I won't drop in any spoilers but there is an emotional element, maybe not on the level that some of the Pixar films like to crank up to, but it is in here and does add a nice addition to the package.I am a fan of the animated movie and I find very few are truly great. This is a truly great animated movie.

With a fairly decent array of special features and a generous UV copy, this Blu-Ray is pretty good value for money.The movie itself is fantastic, with that old Warner Brothers humour that seemed to die out in 2006 revived and raring to go - combining silliness with wit to create multiple levels of comedy that're bound to resonate with all kinds of people. Take for example the spectacular social commentary; with the generic pop-song that everybody loves despite it being annoying (yes, that was the point, corkheads), the average white male protagonist shunting aside the genuinely interesting female proto-protagonist, and the multiple jabs at big-business and corporate America. This may go over the heads of some but it is brilliantly juxtaposed with people falling over, things breaking, and general mayhem. Failing that, there's also "cute humour". Something for everyone! And just when you think you're safe, there's a sudden surrealistic twist that'll throw everything you thought you were watching into complete chaos.It's a brilliantly crafted film, and definitely the funniest to be released in 2014.

So much fun crammed into one film! There are great voice actors who give the Lego characters so much personality that you almost stop seeing them as plastic people with painted-on facial expressions. I don't like Will Ferrell at all but he's not even as obnoxious and unpleasant in this as he usually is. That's how warm and fuzzy this film makes me feel, that I can almost say something nice about Will Ferrell. Chris Pratt as Emmet with his 'prodigiously empty mind' is hilarious. So many likeable characters, witty one liners, clever word play and plot twists are thrown in that the movie bounces along and leaves you wanting more. And wanting to go buy more Lego... wait, have I been duped? Was it just one feature-length advert?!

My review of the film:The LEGO Movie is heart-warming, affirmative, child-friendly and colourful.It is also action-packed, visually stunning, very funny and a great story.Well written, directed, acted, and animated.I absolutely loved it. And so did my gang of children.Must mention "Everything Is Awesome" - great track.My review of the product I received:Wouldn't play without stutter. My Blu-ray player has no issues with other BR discs, and has up to date firmware. Replacing it via Amazon will take 10 days. Rubbish.Update: Since then, other BR discs have started to go wrong, so it's my Samsung BR player at fault, not the disc. Also, Amazon got the replacement to me in 2 days, not 10. Revising up to 5 stars.Now to go review my piece of rubbish 13 month old Samsung player!

Funny, awesome movie that teaches you to think for yourself be true to yourself and never follow the norm. Great for kids better for adults.

La versión de Lego Movie 4K edición U.K. vienen en castellano tanto el Blu-ray UHD como el Blu-ray normal. Por el precio que tiene, poco más de 7€, me parece una compra casi obligatoria para el que le gusten las películas de animación y en 4K.

Came in excellent shape, took a bit longer to get here because it was from Germany. Great value, lowest price I can find. No problem watching it in Canada.
