Fantastic tool to learn from..
Very impressed. Went from being someone with a keen sense to learn to weld to actually welding my workbench from scratch... bought all the right kit before reading the book, found out I had got everything on Stephens hit list which was great (slightly lucky)..In my opinion, to learn to weld without a course or personal coach..1. Buy and read this book2. Watch plenty of youtube videos on how to weld.. but also how not to weld and troubleshooting..3. Buy lots of metal in the size you want for you first project.. but buy extra to practice on..4. Remember to enjoy it, and keep referring to the book.. Most problems can be fixed by adjusting gas flow, wire speed and depending on welder, power setting.. I went to machine Mart and got a MIG151 from there.. and it has been brilliant, after I converted it to use large gas bottles..5* from me!

Easy to understand, deals only with Mig welding.
There were no issues that i disliked , it starts from basics and works up to a good level of basic welding technics. If your like me then you will appreciate the number of photographs that are very good at helping to understand the written explanations. There are references to other forms of welding that help understand why you use one form or an other. All In All a very good beginners book on Mig welding.

Good book but loses a star for a serious safety concern
Bought this to bolster my knowledge of a welding course I've just started - as such I haven't gone in to it with a fine toothcomb yet but I was rather concerned about a comment re: keeping water close to hand to quench hot metal after welding and to potentially extinguish fires. We were told right from the off that water and electricity (as we all know) are not safe bedfellows. Where we are welding on the course, there are suitable fire extinguishers near by (not water filled!) and the quenching bucket is well away from the bays. Other than that it appears to be very well laid out, simple to understand, and is indeed a very useful book, giving several examples at the end of example projects - probably the most useful being how to construct a welders bench. All in all I would definitely recommend - just be careful re: water and lecky!

Great book for beginners
I keep a copy of this book on hand to lend to the trainees at work. It's written in a friendly and informal way and delivers great information and training tips.

A very good book for anyone new to metalwork and electric welding.
A good basic introduction to mig welding and associated safety procedures. This book is well written and amply illustrated with helpful photographs to compliment the written instructions. An ideal starting point for anyone new to metalwork involving electric (mainly mig) welding in a hardback book produced on high quality paper with excellent use of top quality photographs.Very good value for money, and as someone with a background in metalwork and welding (but not mig) I recommend it.

From zero to welding bliss in a week
I'm one of those handymen who late in life decided it was time to weld something ... anything ... just because I haven't before. I bought a welder, tried some welds and made a mess. I realized I needed to learn the basics in a logical order. This was the book for me!The book covers the essential tools and safety procedures, before it even gets to the welding stuff. The beginning chapters are slow reading, but worth it! It filled in some blanks I didn't know I had and it was all good information. Also, it kept me from buying stuff I wouldn't need for now. The book paid for itself right there. When he does get to welding it starts slow and manageable. The initial exercises seemed too simple, but really do lay a foundation you have to master first. Each exercise starts from previous knowledge and adds new techniques or information. The writing style is clear and moves at a good pace. But even more important you can apply what he says when you have molten steel inches from your nose. The pictures and diagrams help build a mental image of what to do and what to expect. He describes a technique, shows a diagram from a top view and another diagram of a cross-section, then he gives you before/after pictures. Sure enough it happens just like he says. You really can learn to weld from a book.I started to weld using youtube videos, but that doesn't work. The information you collect will be spotty. Some of the youtube welding channels are fantastic. However, as a beginner you are going to miss the whole picture by just watching a technique here and there. This book forces you to slow down and get all the information you need to start welding. It's so much fun to setup the work pieces, try an exercise from the book, flip up the mask and exclaim, "Yup! You can teach an old dog to weld."

Piacevole guida in lingua inglese
Utilissimo libro in lingua inglese.
