Yes they do give out some visible smoke

Q: how many sticks in each pack?

There is 8 sticks per pack,well worth the money I think,smell lovely & lasts well after the incense sticks have burned away.The seem to make all the house smell too even thou I have them burning in one room but doors open throughout the house.I use them to mask smoke smells coming from our neighbour as we don't smoke.

As you can see from the picture there is 6 individual boxes with multiple sticks inside. I think about 8 in each so 48 in total.
