Mfg. makes no reference of washing. My best guess would be no. I have used myself for over 10 years. I do soak all my orchid potting mediums before use. main reason is to get the medium saturated with moisture before use. Using a dry medium can cause the medium to suck moisture from the plant and or be hard to thoroughly wet (enough so it adsorbs moisture) after potting. also the soaking process lets dust, fine particles settle to bottom. some growers do soak and rinse mediums before use. if you grow orchids you probably know 10 people will tell you 10 different ways to do something. hope this helps.
