Top quality barrle
I contacted the seller asking a few questions, I got a short reply explaining he was away from the office and he will answer the questions later. Since then (maybe a week) I have had no message. - I am having problems with my gmail but I was still able to recive mail from other people and websites? When I first got the barrle I gave it a good wash and filled it up with water and turned it upside down to see if it is air tight and I can happiy tell you it is. I dried it out and placed 13 kg of food inside (I think 15 kg is its limit) I have a second very small container (2L) and I place a weeks aworth of food in there so this barrle is only opened once a week to keep the food inside extra fresh. + I put a very small metal bowl in the barrle with 100g of moisture absorber to keep the food even fresher. The food we use only lasts 55 days (2 dogs) so I don't need to worry about the food going bad but it's good it know this food is stored properly. My friends and family sometimes come around and open the barrle, take food and then leave it open (it's hard to close) so I love the fact that you can place a very small wired lock on it. Hopefully I will never need to buy another one of these again as these containers are a VERY solid build but this will be my choice.

Receptacle
One of the strengths of the Amazon ‘machine’ is that it offers you things that you don’t yet know you'll need – but you really do. I had a lot of dust extraction to get through as I was grinding a concrete floor and also my garage had steadily filled with sawdust when my vacuum unit died on me and wouldn’t work despite my having changed the bag and filters. I bought a cyclonic extraction unit reviewed previously ‘vortex’. My mistake was to try to match this with an unsuitable receptacle that was not sturdy and was not airtight. It didn't really work and most crucially it didn't spare my vacuum unit that I'd purchased from our local DIY store and it really went through loads of filter bags. This jolly blue drum is both of these things - airtight and sturdy. Okay, it’s designed for airtight storage and is food safe but as Amazon humbly suggested, it is also perfect to match up with a cyclonic extractor unit. First of all, I drilled the lid. Take your time with this as you can easily go wrong and remember, above all, you need a sturdy and stable and air-tight connection with the base of the cyclonic unit. I only had a 50mm forstner drill bit and it was a teeny bit small. It did, however, provide me with a nice clean hole in the top lid of the blue barrel. I then offered up the cyclonic unit and marked the position where the bolt holes need to go through. In order to do this, I held it tightly in position, don’t let it move, and squirted some white paint from an aerosol to mark position of the holes. I drilled 5mm holes in turn and the cyclonic unit fitted perfectly. To the inside I used the plastic lid from a pack of masking tape and marked this in a similar fashion before drilling it. This was just to provide a bit more stiffness. As I brought the pieces together and before threading the bolts through (that come with the cyclonic unit) I squirted a nice generous helping of clear seal (that you night use around a bath) and made sure the bits were well tight. The lid fits perfectly on the blue barrel. It’s a bit fiddly and it took me a while to get used to but it is airtight and thus perfect for your cyclonic extractor. Connect it up and fire it up and away you go. Well, it works brilliantly. In no time dust and sawdust were falling from the swirling cyclone into this barrel rather than the filters in your vacuum cleaner. I also discovered that the hose was blocked in my old upright and once I’d cleared this it worked beautifully. The photos show the dust and sawdust accumulating in the bottom of the barrel the yellow top from the packet of masking tape and the whole unit linked up. The assembly is airtight and stable. Please note it’s best to have a fairly generous length of hose as the assembled unit is not easy to move around and also if you are not careful the whole thing will easily tip over. In point of fact I used the empty cardboard box that my wet and dry vacc came in when I collected it from my local DIY store and this was a perfect size and mean that the unit did not tip over and was just about possible to drag it around the floor I was grinding and the garage floor. Better still, however, would be a little wheeled trolley I saw in our DIY store for about £15. This has a ring of hard wood that provides support and has three castors below it. This would be prefect for attaching the barrel to though I suspect adding a bit of weight right to the base would give it more stability - those massive saw blades, as in my previous review ‘vortex’, would be perfect. This assembly would then allow you to drag your vacuum and your cyclonic unit around with you and hopefully if weighted properly it would not tip up. All in all this is an impressive assembly and if you are serious about hoovering up dust, cement and concrete dust and don’t want an industrial vacc and filter then this is just what you need. Happy vaccing!

Good bucket but not strong enough for a vacuum cyclone
This bucket is OK. The lid attaches with a metal clamp which is tight and secure. It can be a bit fiddly to get on but is secure. The lid has a rubber gasket which produces a good seal. I bought it to use with a vacuum cyclone and upon first test I tried blocking the hose of the vacuum and the bucket immediately imploded and got bent. It was pretty hard to get back out to it's proper shape as tough plastic and now has some permanent creases. I had it attached to a Samsung home vacuum on full power.

Excellent quality love them
Love these. If it was up to me I'd buy several more although I can't afford it! We bought 3 for dry storing cat and dog food indoors and one for storing outside and lining with a bin liner as a dog poo/nappy bin-emptying once a week when the bins go out . They really are airtight.. I know this because the outside bin can't be smelt at all. Once opened on the other hand it smells like actual death. Anyway these are really good quality. Some have mentioned it being fiddly to open and shut. Once you get the hang of it it's fine although for convenience if your using it for flour/dry foods it would be quicker to have a separate small container handy you can transfer for a few days at a time to avoid constantly having to open and shut this container. Will definately reorder again once I have the funds, probably for flour as they have proved their worth

Perfect for storing a quantity of flour
I purchased a 16kg sack of flour and wanted dark, airtight storage - this is perfect for the job. The 16 kilos were just about right for the container (it could possibly hold a little more); the clasp was a bit fiddly the first time I used it but once you get the hang of positioning it over the lip of the lid it works well, and is certainly as airtight as it needs to be for this purpose. Very sturdy construction.

Perfect for dust collection
Great container - I got this as part of a cyclone dust collector setup. The lid is firm enough to bolt a cyclone straight to it without the need for sheet material to strengthen it. The metal ring around the rim locks the lid down nice and airtight, and the handles on the side make it easy to lift. It only suffers from two minor problems: 1) the base diameter is small, so it's pretty wobbly unless you secure it to a cart and 2) unless you make a pressure release valve, a decent vacuum will deform the container if there's a blockage. It's easy enough to pop the walls back out though. I cut a small hole in the top and used a small piece of wood with a magnet to act as the pressure relief valve, and it works great
