I'm planning a trip to yellowstone and my maps are at 1:63360 scale, am I right that this won't work properly?

How thick is the plastic?

The tool is about 0.030" thick. The material is not brittle, but rather stiff and flexible. It is very similar to the thickness and flexibility of a credit card.
