Happy to find same product as previously used. My last Kidde smoke alarm was installed 27/7/2015 and lasted until 06/11/2025. The new alarm was delivered promptly on 7/11/25. I was able to fit the replacement into the existing ceiling fitting, so 10 second job. Highly recommended.

Does the job

My old one started to make funny noises. My local ironmonger didn't stock them so I went online. This is exactly like the old one so I didn't need to replace the base part attached to ceiling. Remarkably easy.

Good quality and easy to fit

Purchased Nov 2023 and installed immediately. Initially all seemed well. However from Spring 2024 I was getting an occasional spurious alarm. These events gradually became more frequent and are now occurring daily, sometimes on multiple occasions. This morning I was woken in the early hours by the alarm sounding 4 times ( 4 bursts of three blasts). There was no reason for an alarm. It has gone off again while I have been writing this review ! I did not remove the plastic tags when I installed it and so will be able to easily remove the unit when required (which might be much earlier than expected !). I would advise others to do the same. I should add that the detector was mounted in the exact location of the previous smoke detector, which I inherited with the house. This worked flawlessly for a number of years requiring only a change of battery. I would have replaced with an identical unit but these were no longer available. Since writing the above this morning the detector has gone off twice this evening. On the second occasion I was unable to hush it or stop it. I had to remove it and "hush" it outside. All in all a very poor product. I purchased a known brand expecting the quality to be good but this appears not to have been the case.

This is my second Kidde smoke alarm. The battery in the previous one lasted the full 10 years.

For the price, this alarm looks fine but took me over an hour to get it fixed in place. The screws supplied are too flimsy and weak - had to throw them away after the heads got too stripped screwing them into a beam - which took forever to get back out again. Once the base plate was attached, found that there was only one way to get the alarm to fit on - putting it on upside down (ie with the brand writing facing the wrong way). However, that doesn’t matter for me as it’s in a loft, but I’d be annoyed if it was to be located in a more visible part of the house.
