Nikon Sportstar EX 10x25DCF
After much on-line research to seek binoculars which would meet my specific requirements i.e. reasonable price, lightweight, easy to transport, 10 times magnification, quality lens and reputed manufacturer, I ordered these binoculars. Having used them for general use, bird watching, air display, observing sailing events, etc, I have found them absolutely what I required and easy to carry in a pocket or rucksack. The only drawback for me is that the lens covers are loose - not able to attach them to the strap, but that is very minor and does not detract from the enjoyment of using these binoculars. I thoroughly recommend them and to order via Amazon!

Excellent for the price
I bought this as a present. As a keen birdwatcher I use high end binoculars and was hoping these would be good enough at the price and I was really surprised by their build quality and optical performance. No they don’t match up to my Swarovski bins but at the price I don’t think you could find better and they are more than adequate for the casual user.

Very good small binoculars for the price
For their price these are very good small and lightweight binoculars. Image is sharp and quite bright. Lens caps can’t be attached so there is a risk of losing them. I have larger and better binoculars but they are much heavier and bulkier, so I’m often deterred from carrying them which somewhat defeats the objective, but these Nikon Sportstar are no hassle.

Good set of binoculars
I'm not an expert and have only had these a week. However they are clearly well made and feel nice and solid in the hands without feeling heavy. They are very clear and bright and perfect for popping in pocket when out walking the dog. The fact they are waterproof means I can take them out every time without worrying. Carry case is supplied and is neat and good quality too. My only gripe is the plastic caps for eyepieces are loose with no way of attaching them to the strap so may be easily lost. A small gripe however.

Eye relief Cups.
Good optics ookfor the money, however sent back because eye relief cups kept moving back. They did not lock into position and kept moving, very annoying to me. In the end I Went for LeicaTrinovid. Cost more but quality is outstanding and should last for years.

Clearly better
I have been frustrated to find a clear, easy to use glovebox birding binocular in 10*25. I’ve been through four pairs, including a very expensive German brand which has a depth of field of just a few inches. They were clear, but getting the correct focus in the first place was challenging, then when the bird moved, it moved out of focus, resulting in another focus wheel tussle to get it back. Clear glass ok for landscapes, but hard to live with for birding, so they had to go. So I read the reviews for a quality small pair of bifold binoculars, and it was a toss up between these and the Pentax. Eventually settled on the Nikon. What a surprise, for a quarter of the price of my German ones, their glass was almost as clear, very acceptably clear, in fact in difficult cloudy conditions they had less colour fringing than the German ones. Well done Nikon! As for the depth of field and ease of focussing, there are eas easy as my 10*32 pairs. Easy to live with, great clear glass, robust, and good depth of field. At this cost they are five stars for value. Additional comments after first birding outing. A total revelation the glass is as clear, if not better than my expensive German 10x42 pair, and much easier to use, great field of view, depth of field and general handling all excellent.. Totally blown away with the clarity of the glass and overall ease of use. Overall these have become my best birding binoculars.

Wide FOV, smooth focus dial, bright at night. Severe chromatic aberration during bright sunny days.
The best bit about this Nikon 10x25 Sportstar EX is that it's very quick and easy to find and focus on your subject due to the wide FOV. I compared this binoculars mostly to the Pentax AD 10x25 WP, as both are similar in size, magnification, weight and price. The Nikon image appears to be slightly more magnified than the Pentax AD 10x25 WP though both are marketed at the same magnification of 10x. I'd say the Nikon was probably 10.5x or even 11x compared to the Pentax AD 10x25 WP. The combo of a wider FOV and bigger magnification gave this bin its wow factor. It's surprisingly not that dim during night use, the Pentax AD 10x25 WP image appeared dimmer in comparison. However I returned this pair and kept the Pentax as I could not get over the slight whiteness of the image and chromatic aberration. These were its only 2 flaws, it fared better in other aspect compared to the Pentax. If its your first bin, you might not notice the whiteness of the image, but the chromatic aberration during a bright and sunny day could still be quite apparent even for untrained eyes. Unfortunately for the Nikon, even the less expensive Pentax UD 10x21 performed better in terms of image clarity and sharpness. Pros: - FOV; 2.5mm is large enough for a comfortable viewing experience for such a compact bin - Bright image - Smooth play on focus knob, easy to find focus, not too sensitive to miss focus and have to "rewind" like the Pentax AD 10x25 WP. - Folds up compactly - Good quality velcro soft case with a belt loop Cons: - Image quality, slight white tint on the image, probably due to the coatings or the glass, halation on the rim of the image. It’s noticeable as I’ve used a Pentax Papilio II for over a year and it does not have this issue. - Chromatic aberration, quite severe specially during a bright and sunny day. - Eye relief twist caps does not have catches/levels, feels loose, can be pushed down too easily with the eyes. - Eye relief is very shallow, eyelashes still touches lens, requires frequent cleaning. Neutral: - Minimum focusing distance was about 2.3m compared to the Pentax at 1.5m.
