is this a worthy upgrade from a lumia 925

Hi, It's not an equivocal upgrade as the 925 was a flagship device. However, performance wise it should run smoother. However, if your a keen photographer, I don think he camera on this device has a Carl Zeiss lens on the rear camera. So the camera may be a downgrade.

Is Pokemon Go playable on this device?

No. This device runs Windows 10 mobile, and Pokémon Go doesn't support Windows (because it relies on the Google Maps API which Google haven't provided for Windows devices).
