Best colored pencils for comfort and quality
I am addicted to these colored pencils. The color laydown is so much better than cheaper brands and the triangular, coated barrel makes them so comfortable to hold and use that I don't have to use pencil grips on them for my arthritic hands. Very little pressure is needed to lay down smooth, creamy color. There are 24 colors, which may seem like too few, but they harmonize perfectly together in terms of shade and color value. They are great for adult coloring, for both large and small spaces. They can be sharpened to an ultra sharp point with my TripWorhy electric sharpener. They can also be sharpened well with a metal hand-held sharpener, but it is more difficult. It's worth it for sheer convenience to use an electric sharpener, that gives a perfect point that lasts a long time. The folding easel is compact and makes it easy to keep near me while I color. I think it would make a perfect gift- a set of Stadtlers and a coloring book, that can be used in a chair, at a table, or even in bed, with the easel on a small nightstand. Great German quality. I gave up on cheapie colored pencils- these last longer and give much better results!

Great Pencil, colors, durability, blendable, vibrant and priced right!
WOW! Loves these pencils ! These are the pencils recommended by Johanna Basford, so I had to try them. I have no regret, they are really nice and I love this case they come in with this set. It snaps open and securely closed!.. and it will stand up on your desk if you want it to. The pencils are comfy to hold because they are NOT round, they are triangles and have a nice weight and grip to them. Best of all is the color cores are surrounded by a nice white protective barrier that helps prevent breakage. Don't you just hate it when you have to sharpen away half your pencil because it keeps breaking!?? (Prismacolor!) I hope these pencils do well and that Staedtler will start bringing them out in larger sets with more pencil colors! As for coloring, they blend well and will allow for layering. These basic colors are bright, vibrant and this is a decent quality pencil at a very affordable price. Yeaahh!! 5-24-17...Remains a great pencil.....THE lowest priced soft core blendable pencil available......Come on Staedtler.....make these in larger sets with more colors to choose from!

Crazy good pencils!!
I bought these pencils on a whim because some in the coloring community were using them and I liked the bright colors. I wasn’t expecting much since I mostly use Prismacolor and Polychromos. With that said I can’t believe how awesome these pencils are! I received them about two weeks ago and they have been the colored pencils I’ve been using the most. They pair up great with Prismas and Polys. They are wonderful by theirselves. Great color lay down, smooth and very soft but they don’t break. Excellent for fine detailed work. Now if they only came in a larger set with more colors. You won’t be disappointed if you try them. They are definitely good enough for professionals.

Really nice! Exceeded expectations!
Super impressed with this set of staedtler ergosoft pencils. Having sets of Caran d'Ache Luminance, Polychromos & Prismacolor pencils, as well as regular staedtler color pencils, I didn't have high expectations for this set. They do bloom, but you can get a few layers and blending before it's too waxy. I use the white pencil like a colorless blender...it's very faint though. Still favor the Prismacolor white. I have not yet tried other blenders, solutions or stumps yet. Curious about other's experiences with those. They come sharpened, but I like to start with a fine point. I tried several of my manual sharpeners, expensive and cheap, on the hexagon barrel, and found several work well once it cranks through 2-3 rotations. The case is awesome, as usual with staedtler. The barrel has a fantastic "rubber" coating, making long periods of coloring more comfortable than glossy barrels. The colors are bright and happy. My only complaint is the largest set available in the US is only 24 qty. There is a 36 qty. set available elsewhere. Staedtler, if you're listening, please make larger sets asap! Recommend these for beginners & up!

Nice but fainter than I expected
I saw a glowing review from the NYT saying these were doubleplusgood and thought they would make my art pop but the pigment is a lighter intensity than imagined. Nice variety of colors, but I could have sworn that Prismacolor colored pencils I used previously had stronger color.

I can't say enough about these awesome pencils
Love, love, love these pencils. I bought these to use with my adult coloring books. They come in a plastic storage case that has a single slot for each pencil to hold them snuggly. Make sure when you are done using a pencil that you put it pencil tip down into the slot. This helps protect the lead from breaking. There is a coating around the outside of each pencil that helps to keep it from slipping through your fingers while coloring. There is also a coating around the lead inside the pencils to help protect the delicate lead from breakage. The pencils are not round, but triangular. I'm starting to get arthritis in my hand and the shape of these pencils are more comfortable for me to hold for a long time while I color. Last, but not least, the storage case maneuvers so you can lock it as a stand making it easier to pull out and return your pencils to the case. The only negative point I have is that there are only 24 colors in the full set of these Ergosoft pencils. Come on Staedtler, give us more colors! I've included photos of the points of interest I've mentioned in this review. I have, and will still recommend these great pencils to anyone.

I can't begin to say how impressed I am with these pencils. I never knew such coloured pencils existed. I'm so used to cheap naff pencils, generally in floppy plastic cases so that they all move around and fall out easily. When I read the reviews of these, I was sold, and hoped I wouldn't be disappointed. Well, they have exceeded expectations. What a fantastic design of the case (and why on earth has it taken me until I'm 30 to see a company use such simple but effective initiative?). It beats even pencil tins, because once opened, the flap opens up to become a stand. This makes the pencils readily available, no more scrambling around trying to find the right colour, and when closed, the case closes securely - something that tins still don't provide. The pencils are soft and beautifully true to the colour on the coating. Very vibrant. They colour in very smoothly and easily, and also evenly. My experience of coloured pencils has always been scratchy colouring-in straight after sharpening, ending with shiny, blunt and hard going colouring as the pencil wore down. Not so with these, no matter if they're sharp or on the blunt side, they still colour effortlessly. I assume it's the soft lead that enables this. I always associated pencils with hard work, but these are a dream to work with. I was a little sceptical over the triangular shape; I thought it might be a tad painful over prolonged periods, but they're very comfortable to use. As you can see, I'm in raptures over these. The colours available are great, so glad I went for the 24 set and not the 12. The only little niggles I have are these: there is no light shade of pink, which may or may not be a bit problematic if you want to colour white people. There is a tanned kind of colour that might suffice. Not a problem for me as I'm not using them as children might, but using them for work. That said, the range of each colour is very good. I can't comment on whether they break or not as I haven't put them through their paces in terms of travel... though they got to me through the post and none of them are broken. As the pencils get worn down and shorter, I wonder if they will rattle around in the compartment a bit. I hope then that the anti-break technology will be proven at this point! I have sharpened one straight out of the box. The triangular shape made my (round) pencil sharpener leave little indentations on the coating. I notice that they've arrived from factory having been sharpened on each side of the triangle. I don't have the time or patience to sharpen these with a knife, so I will settle with the indentations. A small price to pay for such quality pencils. Staedtler have come up trumps.

Really nice - they are soft and rich and colour lays down really well. There are other Staedtler Coloured Pencils you can get for a little cheaper and they are fine, but they aren't the same as the ergosoft, so make sure you know which you are getting. I prefer these for colouring books to many of the other more waxy types. (I've tried a number of different brands). But I really wish you could get these in a larger pack with a lot more colours, like the Prismacolour packs. Being triangular, they aren't the easiest to sharpen, but I also have the Staedtler two hole tub sharpener and that works best for these of the different sharpeners I have tried.
