Does it work with nylon washing line?

My washing line is steel wire coated in nylon and it’s brilliant, I have had about 3 different types of this but this one is the best.

How does this actually work please,

Simple but effective.......pull the line to tighten through the one way locking jaw system......to slacken the line the button at the back opens the jaws and allows the line to be pulled out.
