gives a great smooth finish on old rusty metal
I used this Hammerite Smooth Black Metal Paint to restore rusted iron garden gates and outdoor railings, and it worked exceptionally well. The biggest advantage of this paint is its 3-in-1 formula, which acts as a primer, undercoat, and topcoat all in one. It saves a huge amount of prep time because you can paint it directly onto rusty surfaces once you wire-brush away any loose flakes. It goes on thick, dries touch-dry within an hour or two, and leaves a smooth, durable, moisture-resistant barrier that protects exterior metal from future corrosion for up to eight years. While the finish looks great, there are a couple of practical things to keep in mind. Because the formula is solvent-based and quite thick, it can be slightly tricky to spread evenly with just a brushโusing a short-pile mini roller alongside a brush makes for a much smoother application. Additionally, the fumes are fairly strong, so it is strictly meant for outdoors or very well-ventilated spaces. Overall, it is an outstanding time-saver for refreshing metal gates, downpipes, or garden furniture, providing long-lasting weatherproofing without the hassle of multi-step priming.

Great Paint. Great Coverage. Great Value. Brill for Garage Doors
I bought this 1L pot which is a 750ml pot with 33% extra free, making it the 1 litre pot which cost me ยฃ20.86. This was a great price after i compared it with B&Q, The Range and the likes. My pot arrived in immaculate condition. No dents, dinks or spillages with mine. It arrived in a very sturdy nice fitting box to fit the tin, which had a cut out circle for the pot to sit in to keep it secure. It also had a cross of very sticky tape across the lid. Iโve used this paint before and have been very impressed with it coverage and how long it lasts. I painted our garage with it during the UK lockdown and its still looking fabulous, so I bought this second pot to paint my sons garage door with too. Iโve really got no patience for thorough prepping before painting because its so boring and labour intensive, but thats why I love this paint as its quite forgiving, you can paint over rust, and to be quite honest its going on a garage in a small blockโฆ..its not outside my house. I wasnโt looking for an award-winning paint job. It just needed to make a faded old flakey garage door look ten-times better, and this did the job perfectly. I know from using it on our garage it is hardwearing and withstands the UK elements and looks great years after. I painted two coats on both of of our garages. One pot does two coats easily on a normal standard UK garage door, and I did the door sides and the bottom. After doing the two coats there was roughly an inch of paint left in the bottom of the tin which may be good for any touch ups it may need once its dried overnight. Really pleased with this paint and the look afterwards. The paint is thick and sticky so thereโs no salvaging and washing the brushes out after. I just binned itโฆ..lifeโs too short!! Iโve posted the before and after pic so you can see the vast improvement to my sonโs garage door. I just hope heโs impressed with my handy work ๐

A good finish other than my own human errors
I used this to paint on an old garage door, changing the colour from green to black and giving it a new lease of life. I sanded the door to give it a decent key, gave it a soapy wash, hosed it down, let it dry, then applied the paint. I used a combination of a small brush for the grooved parts / edges and a mini foam roller to go over the flat bits, which I think is the best way to do it. I went around the edges first with the brush than worked my way down from top to bottom alternating between the brush and roller. Overall, itโs produced a good finish after a single coat, but it could really do with a second one which will now have to wait until spring. There are still a few minor flecks of green paint, a small bit of sagging and a few bubbles here and there in the grooved sections. These are very minimal even as a collective, you would only notice them if you looked over the door thoroughly which no one other than me is really going to do. Even from a medium distance away it looks good and I am pleased with the finish. All these negatives if Iโm honest are down to myself rather than the paint, so now I know I will be ready to ace it on the next run. Iโm expecting a perfect finish when I give it a second coat in the spring now I have made mistakes. My top tips if you use this are. 1. Wear gloves as this stuff is an absolute menace to get off if you donโt. I was in the tub scrubbing for an hour and still went to work with slightly black hands on Monday morning. 2. If you are using a brush and a roller, do one and then the other as they go hard and will be unusable in a very short amount of time. 3. Ensure there is no wind, as I did have some dust flicking up on the lower sections in just a light breeze. 4. Allow plenty of time to sand, wash and paint, this took me around 4 -5 hours all in, but I think the preparation work is key to a good finish. Overall, I am happy with the purchase, even a cheap up and over door would have cost ยฃ1000 fitted, this has given it a new lease of life and colour change for ยฃ20 all in. As the finish wasnโt perfect I have dropped it a star but will give it full marks if the second coat looks better.
