Q: is this California compliant for sleeping area's? does it put off carbon monoxide?

I installed mine in Feb of 2020. BUT... I vented the exhaust outside! Among other VOC's, burning diesel DOES produce Carbon Monoxide! You can't see or smell CO, you'll just fall off into a sleep and never wake up!

Q: Has anyone used this in a garage?

I use it in the garage but not big enough to heat my 26x32 garage.

Q: Does it have voltage protection in case battery charge goes low so heater will automatically turn off?

Yes it does, but it's only set to trigger at around 11.4V or so. If you have a BMS that cuts out anywhere above that, the heater will be shut off mid-combustion without cooling off and begin cooking the diesel fuel inside while it sits. (Not good!) My idea is to simulate a low voltage somehow when the battery is close to my BMS's low voltage cutoff, which is a conservative 12.6V (lifepo4 battery). I can't think of another solution without modifying the ECM software
