Suitable as a gift box for sealed cookies?

The plastic of this box is certainly rigid enough to protect the cookies. However the lid not not snap on - more like fits on over the bottom layer ... easy to remove not a snug, tight fitting. I use mine for crafting purposes, papers and small items that doesn’t need to be kept air tight. Hope this answers your question.

Yes you do they are fantastic quality and strong not flimsy and cheap. I've bought 20 of these box's now and have not been disappointed in anyway .

How much weight can these take? would they be suitable for sand?

These are great storage boxes and perfect for keeping you organised, but I am certainly not sure that they would be suitable for protecting and preserving sand. Unless you were considering using them for decorative coloured sand or silver sand but in my experience it is best to store sand in the original packaging supplied by the manufacturer, then these storage boxes would probably be suitable for you. It might be a good idea to check with the manufacturer on the weight that they recommend but I definitely would not exceed 5lbs (2.268kg) per storage craft box as this is only an estimated educated guess.
