A feather light shoe
I bought the New Balance MRC5000 as a replacement for my old Asics Piranha SP3s. I intend to use these shoes for speed work, intervals, and for short races. I ran in them for the first time while doing an easy 5K workout, and they performed even better than expected. They disappear completely on my feet: the only cushion is provided by the outsole but that is enough to provide some protection on city streets and sidewalks. I thought my legs and feet would be trashed after that workout, but they weren't!I have only rated the shoes at four stars because I have only run 5K in them. I will revisit the rating after I have done some track work and true speed work in them.I can't wait to break these out for a race!

Great Racers
I have tried many different shoe options for workouts and races, I run 3 mile and 5k races. I've tried the Nike waffle racers, Flyknit racers, victory elite, brooks T7, Lunar racer 1, and lots of more conventional running shoes such as the New Balance 1400, Nike Pegasus 30, and (soon) the Puma Narita v2. The whole time, New Balance has been a favorite of mine followed closely by the Nike Flyknit racers. These in particular are my favorites. They are great for most terrains, but excel on road and relatively flat terrain. The little rubber treads on the bottom are great at gripping the road, even when it is wet, which is a major plus. I've had these for a little over a year now. No problems in particular to report that aren't in all racers. These shouldn't be used for long workouts or runs on rocky trails. They are minimalist and very thin, so if you step on rocks, you can feel them. Eventually, like all other racers, they will tear and the bottom will start to roll on itself, but they lasted longer than many other racers I've tried. It is unique in the sense that it excels on almost all courses I've run on, including long and short grass, dirt trail, small gravel, asphalt flats and hills, and courses with sharp turns. Their very light weight and overall comfort make it an almost perfect cross country racing shoe.As far as the fit, the toe box is pretty loose on me and the laces are really long. To compensate, I tucked the laces into the front loop before I raced. Also, when you get them, you might want to put a thin layer of glue or double sided tape to secure the insole. After a while, it started sliding out of the shoe as I ran (weird, right?), which got distracting but wasn't much of a problem at all. Wear tab socks or longer socks when you run in these. When you store them, be careful to avoid crushing them or altering their shape. I kept the stuffing they came with so that I could keep the shape nice. Other people I know that had this shoe said it got warped over time because they threw it in their bags, etc. Overall, a great, well-rounded shoe for racing with minimal problems. It's great for smashing PR's and always surprises me when I put them on. I never realize just how light they are until I lace up. If you're looking to set new personal bests, this is the shoe for you.References: personal experience, PR'd by 1:40 minutes in a 3 mile race the first time I used them, definitely using them as long as the shoe remains intact.

The best racers I've ever owned
I'll come right out and say it, these are by far THE BEST road racing shoes I've ever worn.Build Quality: Because of their weight and build they will wear out very quickly. You may only get a little more than a hundred miles out of these, so use them sparingly. I've run so many PR's in these which makes them well worth it. I do not do workouts in them however, exclusively racing, and they're still in really good shape after probably a dozen and a half of 5k's, so they are holding up better than I expected.Sizing: My primary shoe brands are Saucony and New Balance. My day to day training shoe is the Kinvara 5, in which I wear an 11.5. In the RC 5000's I wear an 11, but this is pretty true to the size in terms of New Balance. Just keep in mind that they are meant to be snug, and you don't necessarily have to wear socks with them, but that comes down to personal preference.A Word of Caution: New Balance did an incredible job engineering these shoes, but you should keep these details in mind before buying:+ These are meant for advanced runners wanting to run some PR's in races, not for regular workouts or runners just starting out.+ If you are not used to little cushioning or a low to zero heel to toe drop, your going to have to do a transition period.+ They have decent but not great traction. I'd only use these on asphalt or the track.+ I would put the maximum race distance for these at 10k, but even that I believe would be pushing it. I've only worn these in 5k's and a couple 1 mile dashes or 3200/1600m on spike prohibited tracks. So if you want to run a 10k in these I would say its doable, but I wouldn't recommend it.Final Remarks: Seriously, these shoes do not get enough credit. Over the years I've tried so many road racers, and I've never had any like these. I don't think I have ever run a bad race with the RC 5000's, if your an advanced runner, and you need a shoe to bring your racing to the next level, you won't go wrong with these.

Do not last long
These shoes look great and feel great when running, but sadly the tread of the shoes began to peel away from the soles only a couple months after I had purchased them. I had probably used them a dozen times. I wish they had lasted longer, because they really are a nice looking, comfortable shoe!

These are the best shoes I have ever owned from a comfort stand ...
These are the best shoes I have ever owned from a comfort stand point. Exceptionally light weight and great traction. I can't imagine sprinting in any other shoes. They have become my daily wear pair from just how comfortable they are on my feet. Small pain to get them off (it is more like a sock, but that is a fair trade). One other small annoyance. The yellow color discolored in splotches in spots after I got caught in a rain storm once. That seemed odd, to wear off that quickly.

Perfect for gym bag
I wanted a pair of really light trainers to throw in my bag so that I could go straight from work to the gym without the bulk and weight of a normal pair of trainers. These trainers are among the lightest in the world and are perfect for this purpose. They take up little room and you would barely know they were there. At this weight they are lighter than many slippers, so they are not heavy duty with large soles like your average trainers. But for travelling they are excellent.
