The Craft Distillers' Handbook: A Practical Guide to Making and Marketing Spirits Paperback – 23 Jun. 2017

The first thing to say about this book is that it is not a practical guide to the mechanics of making your own spirits. if that is what you're looking for then this book isn't the place to start.However if you are looking for insights and information you can use to start your own distillery as a business then this is an Excellent start. I have read this cover to cover and the depth of knowledge and pointers to where to go to begin distilling in the UK is fantastic. The book even touches on the potential Impact of Brexit so is very up to date at the time of writing this review.The book also contains case study examples from operating distilleries in the UK. These examples are very interesting but the way the book has been printed means that the case study pages cut off the chapters mid-sentence. This is slightly annoying but otherwise a great read.

I was a bit disappointed by this little volume. If you are completely new to distilling and live in the UK, go get it. If you are already a distiller and you need insights about getting your own distillery started (in the UK) the book will give you some very useful advice.But if you are looking for things like gin recipes, mashing techniques or how to handle your rectifier column, you will be looking in vain.

The book is a reasonable overview of the latest trends and resurgence of micro-distillation in the UK. Whilst relatively interesting if you want to learn about the nuts and bolts of taking a base alcohol to a spirit this aint the book.

Everything you need to know in here, invaluable and well worth the money.

Not very useful for anyone from overseas. Too much nation specific information on legislation etc. and too little practical guidance on the actual distilling.
