Useful and practical for masonry and carpentry
While a little pricey for a plastic item, I have found this pencil functional for masonry, where a normal carpenter's pencil gets blunt too quickly. Time and frustration is avoided by not having to sharpen this item.

A bit of a let-down when it comes to precision.
I really really wanted to love this pencil, but I can't. I have been using Bic 0.5mm graphite mechanical pencils since secondary school. It's my go-to for sketching or for drawing up plans on paper. As one might expect, however, I found that the thin 'lead' kept breaking when I tried to use it in the workshop, so I shopped for a proper carpenter pencil and discovered this. I thought it would be the ultimate compromise between my old favourite and the proper tool for the job. But it isn't perfect. The problem with this pencil is that the graphite stick is wide and flat, so it's a real challenge to predict exactly where it will meet the surface of the material I'm marking, so my marks are off considerably. When attempting to do precision work, you can't have imprecise markings! If you can afford to be off by a couple of millimeters (yes, that much!), or if you are better than me at learning the ways of this pencil, the build quality is good, and the kit comes with enough spare lead that it should last a very long time.As for me, I'm not sure what my next step will be. After looking at proper (wood) carpenter pencils, with their fat lines and difficult sharpening, I think I might just order a bunch of replacement leads for my old Bic standby and accept that there will be a lot of breakage. I need a pencil that will mark exactly where I expect it to.

Brilliant pencil
These pencils are brilliant for my job as an Industrial Roofer and Cladder because if it gets wet it doesn't matter unlike standard wooden pencils which split if they get too wet
