It fits the bill on both counts. I've used it for international flights and short regional hops and have never had any problems keeping it by my side. Yes, it's extremely small, the roller bar's interior placement makes it even that much smaller, but that's the point. The supercompact profile forces me to not bring any more clothes than I'll need for a 2- or 3-day trip. The number of pockets is adequate for me, and I haven't had any issues with the zippers or the overall sturdiness.
