Transcend 16GB JetFlash 700 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Flash Drive USB Stick Black -TS16GJF700

Superb value for money. Very fast little USB drives. I’ve come to trust Transcend as a brand after using several of their USB sticks for a recent art installation. They performed faster than any other USB stick I’ve used before and proved their reliability long term. Can’t fault them, especially at this price point.

Transcend is one of my favourite memory device manufacturers and I use their SD cards in my digital cameras and their USB memory sticks with my Macintosh computers. I have several memory sticks with a larger capacity (32GB and 64GB) but this 16GB model was purchased with a specific application in mind. I have stored on it a stripped down version of my Macintosh operating system (OS X) and equipped it with all the software tools and utilities to enable me to fix my computer should it go wrong. Disk corruption can cause minor problems but it can also prevent the computer from starting. By placing a copy of OS X on a memory stick I can optionally boot (startup) from the memory stick and use the tools and utilities upon it to get my computer working again. This often means fixing some minor disk corruption on the computer's internal hard drive. Of course, booting from a 'clone', an external hard disk drive (HDD) with an exact copy of the computers own HDD, will do the same job but the cost will be much higher. Memory stick prices have dropped faster than small HDDs. It is also possible to boot from a recovery CD, if one is provided, but this can take quite some time because there are mechanical components involved. By using a memory stick to boot the computer, startup time is cut to a fraction of that achievable from a disk (CD/DVD) and an optical disk drive, which may not be functioning due to the corruption. A USB memory stick is a perfectly acceptable 'emergency boot device' because it is truly solid-state and has no moving parts. But it is very important to choose a memory stick which has a fast 'read access' rate and the Transcend 16GB JetFlash 700 Super Speed USB 3.0 Drive meets this objective easily. The Transcend has a fast 'write access' rate too but this feature is less important in my particular application. I use Transcend memory sticks with Macintosh, Windows and Linux computers and I have never encountered a compatibility problem. They just work.

This USB drive is generally superb - very, very fast; works with every computer it has been tried in (several Windows and Linux variants); and is much better made than many others. I do, however, have one gripe which is the reason for not giving 5 stars. The maximum file size is 4GB. The total capacity is 16GB as advertised but any one file cannot be more than 4GB in size. I suspect this will not be significant to most users but it caught me out when I was trying to use it to move a virtual machine. Amazon's delivery was efficient as usual.

Just what I needed to make a Recovery Drive for my new ASUS ZenBook Duo laptop. It works fine. Being a USB 3.1 device, file transfers are relatively quick. With a reasonable price and quick delivery, I have no complaints!

I work in a workshop where I spend a large amount of time fixing computers. For this I use all sorts of tools, not just physical tools like screwdrivers but also software tools. To do this I requite large, portable storage space. When I saw how cheap 16GB of USB3 connected flash memory was I had to buy this. I have only used it for my job and so far its performing very well. A friend of mine has had several USB3.0 flash drives and he said all of them after a few weeks wiped themselves of data. I've had this one for 2.5 weeks now and all the data remains intact even with daily use. I would recommend this drive if you just need something to transport data and use while your on the move. I would NOT use this as any form of backup for that I would suggest a USB3 external HDD.

Not much to say, works as intended and has just under 16gb of space. I have only had it for around a month now with minimal use so I don’t know what the durability is like

I've had this Transcend memory stick for well over a year now and it hasn't missed a beat. Everything I plug it into recognises it first time every time and I've not had a single piece of corrupted data or any problems with missing files whatsoever. I've had a few memory sticks over the years and this is the only one I feel comfortable with leaving important files on that I don't have another copy of. I know this is a daft and risky thing to do but unlike other memory sticks I've had, this one hasn't given me any cause for concern. There's not much more to say really, performance-wise, it's been flawless and the only slight criticism I can make about it is that I wish the USB plug cap could be pushed on to the back end of the stick to make it harder to lose when the memory stick is in use. I haven't lost mine yet but we all know that sooner or later and always when you least expect it, small plastic parts like this really seem to enjoy pulling a vanishing act and going for a little adventure under a cupboard!

Now that USB3 has come along, you can now get cheap USB2 HDD speeds from the cheap flash USB 3.0 pen drives.. yes... This can now replace the USB2 HDD encloser, I had in my bag to transfer files... One thing that was confusing with this drive is the LED. Its the power on LED and access LED in one. This is different from other pen drives where there is no light for Power status only for access status. Agree with others the lid is not going to last very long likely won't have it in less than a week. No key ring loop provided, you get the hole but no string, Thats a bit of presentation failure not having the string included. Nice sparkling plastic, good build but no string... lol One thing on the easy to rip open packaging copied from battery packs on this flash drive... Thank god ( but she won't listern), Why can't this be on every thing you buy.. no more having to cut the packet as you can never find the scissors when you get a delivery... lol Nice.. and just >£10 (£19 = no chance.) Edit = Unit is now DEAD did not even last to 3 months some thing has burned out, could smell the burnt out component smell as soon as I opened the unit... (Time to find another pen drive)

Me gusta que no sea retráctil porque no es tan grueso y luego no tienes problemas con que se rompa el mecanismo retráctil, y como esto no es un bolígrafo que necesita para nada tener guardada la punta (hay pen drives que van al aire sin ni siquiera la cobertura metálica) pues para mi es mejor que no lo sea. Tiene un diseño sencillo, sin formas innecesarias, el LED azul queda muy bien. Las velocidades de lectura y escritura son exactamente las anunciadas en el propio embalaje, 75 MB/s de lectura y 12 MB/s de escritura. Recomendadísimo
