FLA Orthopedics For Kids Pediatric Cast Shoe

I ordered the pediatric size (7-1/4" long) for my 5-year-old son to wear with a walking cast that is very thick on the bottom. It would work fine for a larger child also. He wears it with the straps all the way as tight as they can go and I cut about an inch off of each of the straps.The first day I gave it to him to wear he kept taking it off. He did not like the way it looked. I admit it will not get any fashion awards. However by the second day he was requesting to put it on. It really helps him walk more comfortably. First, the sole has good traction, and helps him keep his balance and walk more or less normally. Second, he doesn't have to worry so much about getting the cast wet.It is surprising how many small puddles on the floor a child encounters in a normal day, at school, daycare, and wherever. It was not easy for a little guy to be watching constantly where he might step. The shoe helps a LOT.

My almost 4 year old broke her leg and had a full leg cast. The doctor said she could walk on it. He did not say that walking on it will ruin the cast very quickly. The cost to replace it is several hundred dollars. I ordered this shoe after 1 week. It saved the cast, and I think it made it easier for my girl to walk. I has her wear 1 or 2 large soccer socks over the cast and then the shoe. We went to the beach and all around town for 6 weeks (except swimming.) She was wearing a toddler size 9 shoe at the time. The cast show fit just fine. It had maybe an inch more at the toe. So i bet the shoe would fit a toddler 7 through 11 pretty naturally. Sorry that you even need this product. I hope your little one heals quickly. I threw the cast show away after the cast came off, but if I had had time I would have passed it along. It was a good product and held up well.

Does not fit my 4.5 year old. I can make it as tight as possible and the velcro barely touches anymore, and I had to cut several inches of excess velcro off the edges. It only stays tight for a few minutes before the velcro comes loose and the shoe starts to fall off. It was a waste of money. I think a more appropriate size range would be for kids at least 5+. My daughter is small but her feet are fairly average (she's in a size 9 shoe) and this thing just falls right off. It has about 2" of shoe beyond the length of her cast (beyond the toe, that is).

My daughter is 6 and needed to wear this over her cast to protect it when she broke her ankle. It's a good sturdy shoe, and the Velcro held very well. My only problem with it was it wasn't quite long enough to fit her cast, but it did the trick. She wears a shoe size 1, and the cast was obviously bigger than a size 1 shoe. But the shoe was supposed to fit kids ages "2-7", which I think is a bit broad since foot sizes in that age range vary dramatically. Although if I had gotten the next size up (youth) that may have been too large and she might have tripped on it. Overall, this suited our purposes just fine.

My 4.5 year old daughter had surgery on her toes and now has a cast on each leg that comes up to her knee. The casts really put her in the back seat and it was difficult for her to walk. While the soles on these boots aren't perfect (she walks on the front of her feet with them) they have made walking SO much easier. They also do a great job of protecting the casts. She can use her ride-on scooter, etc. I would most definitely recommend these. They fit her perfectly.

This shoe was well made and very strong but it did not fit around my daughter's cast. As a nurse it is also unsafe as it would have changed her gait or walking pattern in an unsafe manner. This shoe needed to be shorter with more ability to change its' shape in order to fit any size of cast. I ended up custom making a shoe.

Fit well. He wore it daily for 4 weeks (3 year old kid). It did end up starting to fall apart by the end. But stopped him wearing the cast down perfectly.
