It appears as though this is a normaly closed switch,how am i supposed to wire it up?

The cover comes off, then you can attach your thin bell wire ends to the bell push terminals inside - on the back of the push button - (small small screw driver needed). - then screw the clear plastic back plate to the door-frame or wall, then put the (white or black) cover back on.

Can this bell push be wall mounted? I have a wire sticking out of brick wall near door, electrician said the bell push needs a back plate for mounting

Does the light stay permanently illuminated until it is pressed. Or does it illuminate only when pressed

The light is permanently illuminated, until the button is pressed. As soon as the button is released the light illuminates again.

Does this definitely have an LED rather that an incandescent ?

According to the descriptions I have found, the bellpush is still fitted with an old fashioned festoon type filament bulb. LED replacement festoon bulbs can be bought on EBAY. I have had my two of these bellpushes for a couple of years now and the bulbs are still going strong! They are lit all the time, so that's many thousands of operating hours.
