## Description

The TRBX174 represents a price breakthrough for the TRBX range, yet the quality is everything you'd expect from a Yamaha bass.

Review: Great sounding classic electric bass - I'm not sure how many stars to give... The delivery was a bit botched, but the bass itself is excellent. Evidently there was a mixup between Austin Bazaar and FedEx. The tracking number was issued at 10:45 one morning., but the package wasn't picked up by FedEx until 5:00 p.m. the next day, resulting in my bass being delivered a day late. The bass was double-boxed. The outer box was immaculate, the inner box (from Yamaha) was pretty torn up, but the bass itself was fine. My bass is a lot darker than the photos on the website, almost black. The lighter sunburst color is really only visible under the strings. I wish that weren't the case, but it's still a pretty instrument. I suppose that it's the luck of the draw, and for an inexpensive instrument, I shouldn't complain too loudly. When it arrived, the strings were so slack that my tuner couldn't register the notes. I tuned it and played for a few minutes, then was called away for an hour. When I got back to it, all the strings were a bit flat. Over the next day or two this continued, with the strings a little less flat each time, so evidently, they'd never been brought up to proper tension. I think that's a good thing, the strings should last me longer. The last couple of days it's stayed in tune, so the tuners weren't slipping. As far as I can tell, the neck is straight and the bass is intonated well. I'm waiting for a gig bag to be delivered, then I'll have it properly set up by a guitar tech. I'm a guitar player who decided to try bass. A couple of years ago, I bought a Rumble 40 amp and an Ibanez Mikro (short scale bass) because its scale length isn't much longer than a guitar. Gig bags, straps, storage racks, and etc. for use with a guitar work well with it and it's inexpensive. I enjoyed playing it, but there was an indefinable something missing from its sound. I decided that I might like to take bass lessons and wanted to learn on a regular size bass, so I spent a couple of weeks researching them before deciding on this one. I've only been playing the Yamaha a few days, but I really like its sounds. I'm 70 years old, and like old music. I don't play slap bass, rap, hip hop, reggae, or etc., so I can't comment on how useful it is for those styles. For 1950s-1970s-style country and pop, its everything I could wish for. Many basses power on an active circuit when you plug in the instrument cable. I'm in the habit of leaving the cable plugged into an instrument when putting it back into the rack, so I didn't want a bass which would drain a battery if I did that. This bass has passive pickups (like the Fender P and J basses) and doesn't even have a compartment for a battery. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it.
Review: Great First Bass; High Quality at a Reasonable Price Point! - My first bass; arrived in excellent condition and plays great! Fit and finish is competitive with my guitars which cost double or more. Only caveat was I didn’t seem to have a battery included for the active pickups. Wasn’t a big deal for me as I had a spare 9v, but just a consideration.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I am mixed answers on if the pickups are active or passive.. can anyone confirm which it is. Im also seeing it has a switch to change from active?**
A: This listing includes 6 different Yamaha bass models. The 100 and 200 series have passive pickups. The 300 series has active pickups, with a 5-way instant EQ switch. The 500 series is active/passive, select-able with a toggle switch.

**Q: What case will this fit**
A: Most cases sized for a long-scale bass should fit I would think. If it helps, the body is 13in wide x 20in to top horn, with a total length of 43.5in from top of headstock to bottom strap button. Best of luck to you!

**Q: Which website can i purchase upgrade parts for the yamaha trbx605 5-string?**
A: That is a broad question. For bridge I like graph tech, for assorted parts, Stewmac.com, for pickups, that is I pick taste thing, Duncan is solid, pots - mojo tone is good
depends on what you are doing

**Q: The bass is made in Japan ?**
A: no, it is made in Asia, I can't remember the country. Indonesia.
