A real great bit of kit for 20 squid ! My MOT came up with an advisory at 4mm on the rear tyres but 3 months ago they were 4.8mm and I haven't used the car???? I measured them today and they are 4.81mmHandy tool to have in the tool box and the hard case is a nice touch. Real nice quality feel.

If you love gadgets that are functional as well as well designed you like this. As far as I can tell, in the first few months of ownership, there is one small problem and that is the On/Off switch is located on the outer black face. This switch can be accidentally pushed when the unit is placed in the case provided which will inevitably drain the internal battery. I have taken to removing the battery before putting it in its case. It is solid, well made and extremely accurate, if you follow the simple instructions to reset the guage before use.

This is deceptively heavy, mainly due to the metal block obviously the plastic versions of this are lighter. Although the whole thing isn't metal as the title seems to suggest.I found it very easy to use, although I have been warned by a friend of mine to watch out for battery drain. It's very easy for the gauge to get knocked and start measuring when in the box, make sure you tighten the screw when in the null position to stop this.Seems quite accurate, well enough for the intended use anyway, but be sure to zero it first on a proper flat surface otherwise you'll get spurious readings.

Overpriced. Looks the part but failed after 16 months. Was well looked after, back in the box after every use. Won't be buying again.

Lovely feel to this depth gauge and hugely accurate. Well worth the extra money as this feels like a precision tool and built to last and means I can run the tyres further as I know exactly what tread I have left, instead of relying on the car dealer, who seem to take off at least half a millimetre from the actual depth when telling me I need new tyres...

Well made and extremely accurate. Having got fed up with the garage's measurements never matching up with my cheap gauge I decided to invest in a proper tool and I am not disappointed. With the price of tires it will pay for itself by not changing them too soon whilst making sure there's enough tread to be safe. Money well spent

It's a small micrometer made for depth-gauging tyres, or frankly any other similar 'hole' or (short) length (eg; length of a screw or bolt). Well built and scored well in a review that i read of such tools (UNLIKE some similar-looking ones that the Auto tool reviewers slated) so that is why i chose it.
