Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version With Apocrypha Hardcover – 31 May 2001

WOW, I was so surprised when I received this Bible.I was expecting the usual thin-paged and fairly small type-set that I have found to be the norm in most bibles, but this is not the case here. The print is of normal book size (so it's easier to read than alot of bibles) and the pages are much thicker, too (I can hardly see the print from the other side of the page).It is a nice solid feeling gold-edged book, and it looks as though it will last well. There are a couple of maps in the back, and a lovely presentation page at the front. Yes it's lacking in many aspects (no ribbon marker, no words of Jesus in red, no dictionary at the back), but what do you want for such a low price?! lolI would highly recommend this bible to all those that are seeking to read the word of God, clearly and easily. It is a very understandable translation, and I can see why it is so popular among churches and clergy as well as the ordinary worshipper.The only thing that I will say is that's it's imitation leather and not real (from what I can see anyway), but it really is a lovely shade of purple. It also stays open to whatever page you may be reading, which is always a good thing :o)BUY THIS BIBLE!! (you really won't regret it).

This translation of the Bible has an excellent balance of accuracy - it is a very accurate translation - and staying true to the style of the widely appreciated King James Version. There are footnotes indicating alternate translations, variations, etc. It is for this fine balance that this version was chosen as reference for The Oxford Bible Commentary, which is an excellent work in itself. The printed edition itself is excellent. Binding is very good, text easily legible and its size and light weight make it very easy to read and handle.And of course - it wasn't written by the Spanish 20th century poet Federico Garcia Lorca, as the description states.

I am sorry not to be able to appraise this particular bible...Amazon have sent me the Oxford University Press NRSV Anglesized edition, 1995 with ApocryphaISBN 0-19-100004-3. S/N 9780191000041I recommend this bible though. It is still a nice size with an easily readable typeset. The boards are toughand the paper inside is beautifully white with NO print visible from the reverse page. I am delighted!Thank you Amazon. Shan't be returning this one.Does anyone think that Amazon knows how to reference a book? For their benefit, you could try;[Title] [Publisher] [Date] [no. of pages] [Author] [ISBN] and a barcode.Don't think I'm being unnecessarily sarcastic, this is the THIRD TIME they've done it this month.P.S. The bible arrived a day before its due delivery date, and is printed on very fine, parchment-style paper, so although it has a huge page-count, it's a very accessible size. As long as you're not rough with the pages when you're handling it, it's an ideal size, and the thin paper makes it so much easier to store and use.Bought this for a study course, and I have recommended it to my peers because it's very user-friendly and compact.

I bought the NRSV "Gift & Award Bible" in purple for a dear friend as a Confirmation present. He was really pleased with it - it's Classy, Nice sized print, Nice sized book & has a page to write a gift message.The NRSV is the version my minister recommended: It is a more recent interpretation & is an Anglicized text in contrast to the NIV's Americanized evangelical translation.I have no hesitation in recommending this Bible to anyone looking to purchase one.
