A really good product
I was buying some new double sockets a few days ago and ended up on the BG (British General) website looking for details of the differences between two of their part numbers (822 & 922). This new doorbell socket was being promoted there and, as our old doorbell is not the loudest, I decided to try one.I bought it from an Amazon seller ('The Lamp Post') and it was actually cheaper via Amazon than directly from their own website. However, that's irrelevant to this review, but I'll admit it surprised me a bit.In the box, you get the double socket (it's BG's 822 pattern, so the corners are more rounded than the 922 series) and the push button, which includes a CR2032 battery and a double sided sticky pad to fit it, along with two screws for a more permanent installation. It's very easy to fit the socket in place of an existing one (new screws are included), but be aware it's quite bulky, so you may not have a lot of room in a 25mm backbox. The connections are colour coded, L&N next to each other on the upper part, and there's two earth terminals (upper and lower) at the opposite end to the L&N, one for the cable and one to the backbox. If the last paragraph is gibberish to you, don't even think about trying to fit it yourself. Get an electrician to do it for you or you could end up killing yourself. It took me all of fifteen minutes to complete the installation, screwing the push button to our front door frame around 30' away from the socket, with the signal needing to go through two solid brick walls.I'm pleased to say it worked perfectly. There are six ring tones and three volume levels, all adjustable using a double ended rocker button on the socket itself. They ring as you alter them at the socket, so there's no need for an assistant to press the button for you.I used the 'Westminster' chime at maximum volume as it gives the longest and loudest ring. We've not missed anyone at the door since. You could of course just get a wireless plug-in doorbell, and probably cheaper than this socket, but personally, I like not having the plug-in unit sticking out and taking up one half of the socket.Anyone familiar with BG's sockets will know they're not top of the range, but not too bad either. This one is up to their usual standard, nicely finished, and it works really well. For the money, I think this is an excellent item, a great idea, and I'm pleased to recommend it to you.If this brief review has been helpful, a click of the button below would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Switch quality
The item fully met my requirements and the instructions were easy to follow . Purchasers of this item do need to take a photograph of the wiring of the switch to be replaced in order to fit the new one correctly

Good 👍
The media could not be loaded. Socket is alright works 💯 3lvl sounds not too loud but enough. Switched with previous one perfectly fitted same holes.Bell button was bend just a bit but I've used sandpaper to get one flat lvl and used double tape which is much better idea than drilling new holes in bricks 🧱. Nice smooth finish looks fancy. If you get this for less than tenner like me that's ok but not worth above that price. Thanks 👍

Great innovation and works well
I bought one to see if the signal from the bell push would reach from the front door of my house to my office at the back in a formerly detached building, where it's easy to miss callers knocking at the front door. For me, replacing an existing socket was easy. Very impressed with this, it's neat and works perfectly. Lovely traditional chime sounds, and loud enough for main house use. So I am now ordering a second one (as planned if test worked) to go in the house hallway. This provides a mains powered chime that's wire-free and practically invisible. Genius!

Could be louder
I bought one of these and it was quite easy to install and set up with the bell push. Although it is loud enough to hear if installed in the room that you are in it would be better if it was louder. I first installed it in my hall near the front door but on maximum volume I could barely hear it in the back room even though there is only one door between. My previous battery-operated bell could be heard okay. I therefore, bought two more and relocated the one by the front door to a socket on the landing which can be heard in the bedrooms and the others I installed in the two downstairs rooms. I could really do with another for the detached utility room too but it's getting too expensive and there are probably cheaper options available which don't use the mains sockets.Although it's not particularly bright I can imagine the flashing light is useful for anybody who are hard of hearing, provided the socket is mounted somewhere in view. I've also noticed that although there are different volume settings and chimes, if there's a power cut they revert back to their default settings and I have to reset them again. They are a good idea and don't need batteries (except for the bell push) but I don't think I'd have bought the first if I'd known that I'd have to buy two more. Unfortunately, they don't sell the sockets on their own a bit cheaper without the bell push.I just wish that callers, especially delivery people, would use the bell rather than knocking on the door!Update 9-2-2024: The reason that callers don't use the doorbell could be because the bellpush doesn't always work despite pressing it quite hard. My wife came home and didn't have a key so knocked on the door. She said that she had pressed the bellpush several times but it didn't ring the bell. I replaced the bellpush with one that I hadn't used and that didn't always work either, I don't think it was the battery because after repeated pressing it it did occasionally work. I think I'll have to buy an alternative doorbell.
