Found a new use for my old stereo with this wireless AirPlay 2 gadget. Download the app and quickly add the device to your network. Now my old stereo can play whatever I'm listening to on my laptop just like my Homepods. Sounds good too.

Use it mainly to airdrop. Connects fast and so far no issues. May get another so I can sync another receiver.

My router shows it as connected, but I get a Wi-Fi connection timeout error. Support website wants an email address for a code just to access support. Not suspicious at all, but I played along. Shocking, no code has arrived. It’s going back.

Easy setup

Funciona perfectamente bien para lo que lo necesitaba: conectar unos altavoces autoamplificados simultánemente con otros dispositivos mediante el protocolo de Apple AirPlay 2 y así poder escuchar la misma música en distintos lugares de la vivienda, como el interior y el jardín, logrando un “efecto fiesta” muy agradable. Muchos de estos dispositivos receptores de música que pueden encontrarse en Amazon son compatibles con el primer AirPlay de Apple, lo que te permite enviarles música desde un dispositivo Apple (iPhone, iPad o Mac) a través de la wifi, que tiene más alcance que el bluetooth, pero pocos lo son con el protocolo AirPlay 2, que te permite además enviarle música a varios dispositivos como Homepods, altavoces Sonos u otros al mismo tiempo (ver foto). La conexión y configuración son muy sencillas: conectas el iEAST a una fuente de alimentación por USB y a la entrada auxiliar de cualquier altavoz o equipo de música; el iEAST tiene una salida de jack de 3,5 mm y viene con un cable con un jack de 3,5 mm en cada extremo, de modo que si la entrada de música de tu altavoz o equipo es una RCA doble, necesitas un cable específico, que es muy sencillo de encontrar. Descargas la aplicación con el código QR que viene en las instrucciones y con esa app conectas el iEAST a la misma red wifi en la que tengas conectado el emisor de música desde el que quieres enviar música; para ello debes pulsar el único botón del iEAST hasta que se ilumine la luz verde, que es la de la función wifi . Una vez hecho esto, desde Apple Music buscas los dispositivos receptores compatibles con AirPlay 2 y te aparece el iEAST así como el resto, con la posibilidad de enviarles la música a todos ellos al mismo tiempo. Está comprobado que en el altavoz o equipo al que hayas conectado el iEAST suena la música al mismo que en otros dispositivos AirPlay 2; yo lo probé con una Apple TV conectada a través de la salida de fibra óptica de la tele a unos altavoces autoamplificados y se oía perfectamente bien y sin retrasos. En las instrucciones se dice también que funciona con otras aplicaciones como Spotify o Tidal o con el protocolo DLNA, pero yo no lo he probado. También puede recibir música a través de bluetooth, pulsando el botón hasta que se vea la luz azul, pero si lo que necesitas es convertir un altavoz o equipo viejo en un receptor bluetooth hay otros receptores más sencillos y baratos (este no lo es). La gracia de este, al menos para mí, es, como digo, la compatibilidad con AirPlay 2. He comprado uno para probar, pero, visto que funciona, compraré algún otro más para ir creando un hilo musical en toda la casa sin tener que renovar altavoces o equipos de música. Respecto a la calidad de sonido, la conversión interna de sonido digital en analógico (DAC) es bastante buena, mucho mejor, en mi opinión, que la de los Chromecast o Audiocast; pero si en lugar de usar la DAC interna quieres usar una DAC externa con mejor calidad de conversión puedes hacerlo porque a la única salida de audio puede conectársele, además de un cable jack 3,5 analógico, un adaptador para un cable toslink de fibra óptica que lleve esa señal óptica (ver foto), y por tanto digital, a la entrada de una DAC externa de mayor calidad que convierta el sonido en analógico y lo lleve al amplificador o altavoces autoamplificados. No tiene posibilidad de conectarse a Internet por cable, pero es que tan pequeño y ligero que no está pensado para eso. Con una buena conexión wifi funciona correctamente y sin problemas.

EDIT: After a few weeks the oliostream developed a fault, the sound started to suffer from momentary dropouts. At first it was a rare occurrence which I thought might be a glitch on my network, then over the next few days it became increasingly more frequent, I was having no trouble with my other devices and the oliostream always reported "network 100%". I tried all the troubleshooting I could think of, such as not inserting the mini toslink all the way (which solves a similar problem with my Chromecast Audio streamer), moving it away from other electronic devices, etc. I returned it for a refund. I may buy another one of these in the future, I enjoyed using it and I have no reason to think they all have this problem. Original review: This isn't perfect, but in some ways it outperforms more expensive steamers I have used, so I think it deserves five stars. It was very easy to set up. The app is good, much better than Yamaha's. Connection to wi-fi is very stable, better than a Bluesound Node. Bluetooth is the standard type only, no aptx etc. I have only used the oliostream's optical digital output, so I can't comment on the analogue sound quality. Using the same DAC, my Primare NP5 sounds noticeably clearer, but the Primare is much more expensive. I find the sound quality of the oliostream to be good, acceptable for my intended usage, but I would not use it with my fancy hi-fi system in the living room. 24 bit 192 kHz resolution is claimed, but I had the sound stuttering on anything higher than 96 kHz. Maybe the analogue output can handle 192 kHz, but I have achieved 192 kHz with the same DAC and cable using other streamers. In the Q&As above the seller says that Amazon Music is gapless, but there are audible 'splices' where there should be smooth transitions. The steamer was gapless with network shared files, and with Qobuz and Tidal, when selected within the IEAST app, I did not try any of the other compatible streaming services. Qobuz and Tidal are CD resolution only in the IEAST app, you can get high resolution Qobuz playing on the oliostream with the BubbleUPnP and mconnect player apps, but not gaplessly.

Product voldoet uitstekend. Veel kleiner dan gedacht, wordt gevoed met USB-C (ik koop NOOIT meer iets zonder) en heeft ook een optische uitgang. Let erop dat die laatste een mini-toslink stekker vereist.... Die moest ik dus nog even nabestellen. Er zit een prima app bij en aansluiten / werkend krijgen is hiermee zo gepiept. Uitstekende vervanging voor mijn oude oplossing die toch wat kuren begon te vertonen en indrukwekkend dat dit in zo'n super kleine net afgewerkte behuizing past! Ik gebruik hem tot nu toe alleen voor Spotify Connect streaming en dat werkt dus prima.
