I am new to fortinet products and my office needed a way to secure our network and somehow limits users access to the web to keep employee on productivity. I bought this device and put it at work immediately using the documentation that fortinet have available only, which is great. I come to a point where I needed more than the documentation then I posted a ticket and customer service replied to me and helped me out with my issue. Until now I have to say that I am pretty much satisfied with the product and the service. I really recommend you to give it try I think that, just like me, you will be satisfied.

I purchased a Fortinet FortiGATE 60E on Amazon. The product listing implied I was buying via the Fortinet Store (i.e the manufacturers store on Amazon) - THIS WAS NOT ACCURATE. In attempting to register the product to have warrantee support and standard software updates, and initiate the Ultimate Threat Management protection services contract I discovered the contract and warrantee periods were over 50% expired. Calls to Fortinet Customer Service were not helpful, Customer Service referred me to the distrubutor/reseller. Calls to SerenIT went to VOICEMAIL JAIL with no response. Fortinet Service stated that neither SerenIT or Amazon were authorized product distributors or resellers. I have used Fortinet products for years in data center networks I designed, great products - much better than Cisco, and other vendors - I believe the Fortinet product family is the best for Cyber Threat protection..

The FortiGate itself is fantastic. We use SonicWall at work, but Fortinet offers similar control for a lot less cost. This device is great for anyone that can't be bothered to build their own pfSense box. My only complaint is with the power cord that came with it, as it had obvious patina/corrosion on the copper plating. My guess is maybe it got dunked in water at one point. While I was able to clean it some, I ended up just using a spare power cord I had on hand instead. Thankfully the FortiGate itself was in good condition.

Great product, but requires good depth of knowledge to setup and takes a while due to the complexity of setting up anything "custom". For example, if you have multiple vlans and you want to access devices across vlans - takes a while to configure...

I purchased this from Amazon.com and it arrived in perfect order with the wrinkle that the power cable supplied was for a European power plug. As I had a tech charging by the hour on site to handle installation I ran out and purchased a travel adapter so we could complete installation. Once completed I decided to call Fortigate customer support to see about obtaining the right power cable. Fortigate right out of the gate were determined to be unsupportive. As amazon.com is not a licensed reseller of Fortigate products they regarded the problem as my problem. Further their view was that as the power cable was for a European destination any future potential problems would have to be addressed by Fortigate's EMEA operations. All I wanted was a power cable for use in the USA. My tech told me that Fortigate is worried that viruses could be installed in the firmware of non-reseller sold product posing a security risk. So my thoughts are 1) if security is at the absolute center of this purchase go to a reseller - though Fortigate why on Earth are you so unfriendly to customers ?! 2) I think that product sellers who want to control their distribution network (and pricing ?) should engage with amazon to place a disclaimer - if you buy it here we will not be helpful. Alternatively they should stamp out anyone other than their network selling the product. Summary: great product, shame about the company.
