Bought one to try out, now have them on all my surf poles
If you use cord, instead of monofilament, and you're casting surf-lures all day or night, these are great. No need for a glove to protect your fingers, and they allow me to reply throw it out there. A bit of learned muscle memory required, at least for this clumsy fisherman, before it becomes automatic, but that's a short learning curve, and then you can use them blind in the dark as easily as during the day. I've read some complaints that they must be taped onto the rod, but that's a necessary feature, because you want to position the shaft directly below your reel's spool, and reels differ in size. Consider it a custom job, and you'll feel better abut it. I used electrical tape to accomplish this before thinking of heat-shrunk sleeves, also available, cheap, in the same Home Depot department. That produces a much neater looking final affect, and eliminates the possibility of the tape end unravelling, but either method will work. I'd suggest trying tape first, to make sure you're satisfied with the location, and then making it a bit more permanent with the shrink sleeve. It's an excellent product and in my opinion, well worth the price.

Necessity not an accessory
Pure genius. I'm a zip tie fan and they work very well and quickly for installation. Just be mindful of where the zip tie lock will end up so as not to bite you. Easy learning curve. By the 4th cast the loading movement became natural and subsequent trips found no fumbling or memory searching to load. For thin braid it's a must have. No more taped/cut fingers. No more gloves except to keep your hands warm. My only regret is that I only bought 2 to start with.

Works great
Use tape. I use this on an 11ft st croix avid surf pole. It allows me to use thinner braid , so i don't chop my finger. -- not only do you get to use the full power of the pole , you also get more distance from the thinner line. I can now , empty out 1/2 a 4000 size reel loaded with 20# braid , using 5 oz of lure :) Practice makes perfect , start with old lures and expect to loose a few , keep your old heavy line , until your good , then fill up with lighter line. I have at least 3000 casts on this device and it has just started to show "some wear". I'll do 150 casts per session. I imagine most people will never see 1000 casts . Use electrical tape and try to find the best position.. Have fun And tight lines

Fantastic!
I wish I had discovered this product years ago. Perfect for my spincast surf rod loaded with braid line. I just spent a week using it in Florida and loved it. No more cut or sore fingers! I did have to adjust my casting grip just a bit due to the design of my rod/reel combo but that took about three casts to perfect. I was also able to use more sinker weight than before. At first it seemed pricey but now after using it, It appears well made and I expect to get many years of usage.

No ties or velcro to mount
No zip ties or velcro straps to mount up. I don't know if it is better but I paid more thinking it was at least stronger. It doesn't look any different than others.

Useful casting aid..
Been fishing for a long time but I am new to casting a surf rod so I gave the breakaway a try. I like using it much more than my finger because chucking 5 to 6 ounces felt uncomfortable. The bc allows me to cast effortlessly and I was able to cast farther Just 2 to 3 feet more but an improvement. Fitment was not a problem on my setup. I have a 10 ft Penn Pursuit with a Daiwa 4500 BG but I can definitely see how some combos may have issues. However it's money well spent for my application and I would definitely buy another one if I add to my surf combo arsenal...

Easier Casting
I put one on my surf rod before a beach trip last year. They are really great. Don't want to fish without it. I can cast further and it just makes it easier, especially if you like using braided line. Has handled 6-ounce weights without any issues. Extra points for being an American company. There are lots of Chinese imposters out there, but personally ill pay a little more for USA made.

Worth It
Once I figured out how to attach it to my rod and then use it, absolutely works like a dream. Reccomend using zip ties to keep it attached to your rod and a quick YouTube video to understand how to cast with it. I used it on a 13 foot medium surf rod with a spinning rig and was able to cast for more distance without cutting my finger on the line.

Having sustained a deep index finger laceration last week casting a 150g savage gear pike lure at the end of the day fishing. I did a little research and stumbled upon this gadget. I took a gamble, ordered one and it arrived next day. First impressions: Robust and well made. Small instruction card enclosed, very small text. I attached it to the rod as instructed, however I used 2 snap ties instead of tape. Put on a 200g Dennett Bobcat Tailer with hooks removed, as I was on grass, 50 lb braid as mainline and within 3 casts was easily hitting 40 meters. Painlessly with bandaged finger. I had genuinely thought the first thing that was going to happen was the crack of snapping braid. The rod was considerably underweight for the lure so I didn't really hammer the lure out there. I found that 1 loop around the vertical pin was fine, instructions state more, set drag to maximum, ie turn it up to "11". You just let go of the trigger at the point of line release. Two of the kids wanted a go seeing the big lure, even a 6 year old could do 15 m immediately and that was more limited by the weight of the gear he was handling holding him back. The 8 year old had no trouble, previously the line would be to hard on their finger. It sits well back from the bail arm, so if you are not using it it will not get in the way. Aesthetically its barely noticeable. With this there is no need for a finger-stall or glove. It is effortless to use, I will be ordering several more.

Great product for land based fishing. Very effective for getting large (200g-300g) baits out wide, approximately doubling the distance, judging by the winding count to retrieve to shore. Imperative to use minimum 50lb braid and don't use tape to secure it, use 2 cable ties as it's quicker, cleaner and more secure. Also make sure you mount it on a heavy beach rod to avoid it snapping in half.
