Give them time
These are worth every penny. If I were snap happy and reviewed the monoculars within a couple of days of receiving them they probably would have received only 2 or 3 stars. They do take a little getting used to. Finding the correct way to hold them is a bit strange at first (folded) because the objective lens is so far in to the palm of your hand you think your hand might shroud them. Also ,and this is vital, holding the eyepiece close enough to your eye is the knack in getting the full 5-star experience. The image quality I can testify is superb. This is helped, as you would expect by the superb focusing mechanism which isn't too stiff and not too lose.In summary, what has really sold me these monoculars are three things:-1. The size means I can easily and comfortably fit them in a pair of trouser pockets and use within seconds. The case is simple (a leather pouch) but absolutely ideal.2. As previously described is the image quality.3. The surprisingly good performance in low light, well certainly street lighting. One small grouch is the item shown clearly shows the label 'Made in Germany', not on mine! nor is there much to identify the product as Docter - the case is great but on the monocular just a sticky label. Not important to me, the optics speak for themselves

Can give a further review when I have had a chance to thoroughly test them but preliminary results are pretty satisfactory.
Just got this, delivered bang on time, most impressed. Can give a further review when I have had a chance to thoroughly test them but preliminary results are pretty satisfactory.

Why a monocular?
If the lenses in your specs have vastly different prescriptions, chances are that you cannot focus binoculars to enable both sides to be used. With optics you get what you pay for, so why waste money in paying for the side you can't use?I bought my original monocular in 1996. It took a bit of getting used to (like don't try walking and looking at the same time!) but the optics are crystal clear so I can identify birds, read signs in the distance and even find the rest of my group on a hillside! Its small size is really convenient, it fits neatly into the front pocket of my camera case. Both articles have survived years of travel in a bicycle handlebar bag. The original was lost/stolen a few weeks ago. I felt as if I had lost my specs! So pleased to find I can buy a replacement. (The same as the 1996 version, same spec, same colour even same box!)

Lovely Optic - Doesn't Cater Sufficiently For Spectacle Wearers
Beautifully made. Tiny, clever design. Doesn't cater effectively for spectacle wearers; bearing in mind that maybe 20% of the adult population wears specs, this strikes me as being a bit daft.I'm keeping it because it's such a nice optic.

Buy, buy...buy!!
Well, what can I say, when you simply cannot find a bad review on something there has to be a reason!I was going to buy the forerunner to this, the Zeiss Turmon, all very quaint and that but, no great lens coatings, possible mould on the lenses etc thought this to be a better buy, and it is.I had some great Pentax binoculars a whopping 8x56, very bright, but as big as a car, took them out the house 4 times a year...these can go with you everyday, so neat.I was hesitant on what a 21mm objective would give, but fully multicoated prisms produce a sharper picture that I thought it ever would. If your dabbling on getting a monocular, get it, you will never regret it, it has been produced for 95 years nearly unchanged!

Tiny size, high quality optics.
This is a tiny high quality monocular. The optics are great and crystal clear. Given the tiny size of the monocular the clarity of the image is impressive. This is small enough to keep in your pocket whenever you go out for a walk, you won't notice you are carrying it. Highly recommended. Don't waste your money on cheaper alternatives. In this case, you DO get what you pay for, quality.

... monocular for many years which I realised was not great when I bought some good quality binoculars)
I bought these as I wanted something compact for birdwatching etc which would fit in a pocket whilst cycling and walking in the countryside (I have had a cheap monocular for many years which I realised was not great when I bought some good quality binoculars). The monocular exceeds my expectations: it's very light, very small, but the quality is very close to my RSPB HD binos in good light. With their narrow field of view they aren't great for proper watching, but for an item you can literally always have on you (shirt pocket no problem for instance) they are fantastic. Very highly recommended
