just the job

Great stories, of course, and they have survived millennia for a reason, but really! I mean, the play Medea is as full of holes as a blind man’s socks! It doesn’t help that there are variations to many of the myths, but it seems that Pelias’ daughters did chop him up or slit his throat and then boil the pieces to rejuvenate him - and they relied on Medea’s word that he would be made young(er) again? after Pelias had refused to hand the throne to Jason? Oh dear. We are also expected to believe that the Golden Fleece came from a flying, talking ram that was the offspring of Poseidon and was sacrificed by Phrixus - the lad that the ram saved? If I were such a ram I wouldn’t let me be sacrificed! What actual use was the fleece, and what happened to it? If Medea were as powerful as it appears, why does she seem unable to decide her own fate so often? It’s a good story, but nonsense. The other plays have their faults, but overall the book was enjoyable. I didn’t take to the introduction, as I felt it far too intense for my liking. Still, I’m not an academic, just a retired psychi. nurse! Perhaps the books aren’t meant for such as me?!
