Great for Running Linux on Old PCs Without Touching Internal Drives
I bought this external SSD mainly to test and run Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon on older legacy computers, and it worked great for that purpose. The system runs smoothly straight from the drive, and performance is surprisingly good for external storage. What I really like is that I can use it without touching or modifying the internal hard drive of the PC. That made it perfect for testing Linux safely while keeping the original system intact. It’s basically a plug-and-play way to breathe new life into older machines. The drive itself is portable and fast enough for everyday use in this kind of setup. If you’re experimenting with Linux or want a non-invasive way to run an OS on older hardware, this is a great option. Very happy with this purchase.

The SSK 1TB is a Reliable Compact SSD
After using the SSK 1TB Portable SSD for several weeks, I’m impressed by how much power is packed into such a small device - it’s roughly the size of two fingers. It moves my large files fast - it backs up my computer in minutes. It's a highly capable external drive!

Perfect size and quality
So far so good, I have had it for a while now and no issues with connectivity or anything. The size is great, it's about the size of my palm. I stick it in a little sleeve on the back of my laptop, and that works out great.

Fast SSD
I have only had this for a few weeks. I purchased this to use as a scratch disk on my laptop for Adobe Photoshop. It has worked great and seems to have quick access. I tried an older HDD and it bogged down my Photoshop. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fast external drive.

Build is ok, speed is good and as advertised, overall a good product.
So far the speeds on this device is good, of course changing the format form exfat too NTFS because there was no Max device mostly windows 10/11 computers and it would work much faster and such while gaming, and once that was done taking of course a long time to format like 4+ 5+ Hour's? Since I didn't want to use quick formatting for some reason. And I did see a slight opening on one of the aluminum pieces on the very edges which is a slight build quality problem, but the product works just fine, speeds are just as expected and gaming seems fine on the SSD...... PS on the side that's slightly peeking open for some reason where I could see the blue light coming out of from the one of the main aluminum pieces, it still works good for heat distribution to dissipate.. Also other key notes besides the negatives and neutrals, good weight, good portability, ok formatting but it does take a long time if you do the longer formatting options, so I do recommend waiting it out if you need too... Overall I would say this is a ok/good product for what it needs, like simple and nice gaming, or general file transfers, stuff like that should be fine especially with Steam games and such. Anyways I hope this review was even at the least slightly helpful and if not that's completely fine we all have are own opinions. Hopa y'all have a good day and that's all.. PS the seems on the aluminum that meets the plastic or if most if not all the parts are plastic then I am not too sure feels like aluminum for the main big front plates and backplates of it with the outer smaller sides being plastic but regardless the seems on it is not actually that bad as I first thought and I rechecked, I see a little bit of blue light coming out not where is should but it's actually still intact decently.....

Impressed So Far
This is my first experience with an SSD external drive and I’m definitely impressed. I formatted it for my Mac and use it to edit videos off of. No lag issues, it works just like internal memory. Plus it’s much smaller than expected so it doesn’t take up any desk space

SSK SD500 Portable SSD Review (1TB) ✨
I recently got the SSK SD500 Portable SSD (1TB) and honestly… it’s been a huge upgrade for storing my content. First off, the size is super compact — it literally fits in my hand and is perfect for traveling (especially for events like Coachella where I’m constantly filming 🎥). The design is simple but sleek, and it even has a little loop so you can attach it to a bag. What I love: • ⚡ Fast transfer speeds (up to ~1050MB/s) — moving videos/photos is way quicker than my old USB • 🔌 Type-C connection — works with my phone + laptop • 💾 1TB storage — perfect for content creators (no more “storage full” panic 😭) • 👜 Portable & lightweight — easy to carry everywhere What to note: • The cable is a bit short, so you’ll need to stay close to your device • You may need to format it depending on your device (especially phone use) Overall: If you’re a content creator or just need reliable storage for photos/videos, this is actually a really solid and affordable SSD option. It’s been making my content workflow way smoother. ⭐ Rating: 10/10

Read performance of these SSDs is terrible on Debian Linux nodes
I bought two of these SSK External SSD 250GB, USB C SSD External Solid State Drives and am using them with my Raspberry Pi3 (USB 2.0) and Pi4 (USB 3.0) nodes, both of which are running Debian Bookworm (linux) OS. Both SSK SSDs performed great for several months, but when I updated the kernels on both Pi nodes from 6.12.34 to 6.12.47, the read performance of both SSDs dropped to about 3MB/sec. I got the same results when I connected one of these SSDs to an old MacBook I had converted to run the x86 version of 6.12.47 Debian linux kernel. The odd thing is that a SanDisk USB SSD provides great performance on all 3 linux nodes. There seems to be something unique about these SSK USB SSDs that is fundamentally different from the SanDisk USB SSD. I have tried all sorts of troubleshooting and workarounds without success. The performance drop just doesn't make sense to me. It seems unlikely that a hardware failure was caused by the kernel upgrades even though that is exactly when the performance on these two SSDs tanked. I don't yet know if the performance of these two SSDs would revert back to excellent if connected to a Windows or MacOS system. I am still using them even with the slow read speeds, but they are definitely duds for my Raspberry Pi nodes.

Surprisingly Small
I've purchased this twice now because I was surprised at how small and compact it is. Very good product, best external SSD I've bought recently.
