Solid travel rod for most applications.
I travel a fair bit for work and was looking for a travel rod that would check off two key boxes for me: 1) Has to fit in my carry-on suitcase. You wouldn't believe how many travel rods out there are simply too long to fit in a standard carry-on suitcase. At best - they seem to be just 2-3" too long. 2) Must not be super fragile. Because it was going to be squeezed in my suitcase a lot of the time - I needed something that wouldn't end up with snapped tips when I got to where I'm going.Sure, I would love for the travel rod to be super sensitive and light as well, but I could live with a few compromises in a travel rod if it met my key criteria above. The Kingswell telescoping rod seemed to check off both boxes for me based on product specs and existing user reviews, so I decided to take a chance on it. So far - I've traveled (and fished) with this rod twice and I have to say I am pretty impressed with it.First, let's go over the rod. The rod comes in a simple pouch, with a solid plastic cap that protects the guides very well when in transport. When getting it ready for use - the telescoping sections all have line guides on adjoining ends that make alignment a breeze. This is a welcome touch. The handle is comfortable to hold and there's a nice wood inlay on the top side of the handle. It looks nice, even if it doesn't add anything to the functionality. The rod itself isn't super light, but this is a 6'6" Medium Heavy power telescoping rod, so you wouldn't necessarily expect it to be. That said, it's not too heavy either, and balances reasonably well with the included reel. A little tip heavy, but certainly very usable. There's also a folding hook keeper above the reel seat. Most importantly, when collapsed and in its pouch - the rod indeed fits in my carry-on suitcase when packed diagonally. Now the important question - how does it fish? It feels solid and capable of handling a fair bit of load. It's rated as MH Fast, for lure weights of 1/4oz -1oz. I haven't explored the upper side of its rating envelope as of yet, but it feels capable of that. The telescoping sections do add a fair bit of rigidity, but it's still reasonably compliant at the tip. What most impressed me, however, is the sensitivity. On my last trip I spent some time tossing some pretty light tackle (a tiny beetle spin with a 1/16 jig and a 1.5" little plastic) and I could feel even little slightest touch of the spinner on the bottom as well as the vibration from the blade spin even on relatively slow retrieves. Mind you, this is on 10# mono line I had spooled up, so not the most sensitive. Felt a lot more sensitive than my regular Medium Fast Ugly Stick Elite with exact same line, in fact. That said - this is definitely a fast MH rod, so don't expect to be able to cast very light tackle 100ft out. It's rated at 1/4oz on the low end and I'd say the rating is pretty accurate. I could get a 1/16 jig on a beetle spin maybe 20-30ft on a good side cast, but that's about the limit of what this rod could do. But as you upsize the lure weight - it actually casts quite well. Also, because of its relative rigidity, if you're planning on casting lures with treble hooks - you may want to stick to mono for its stretch, otherwise you may be more prone to ripping the lures out of fishes' mouths. As far as the rod's ability to handle different sized fish - I've only been out twice with it so far this winter, so not a lot of catches as yet. I can say that the rod handles a 7-8" dink of a bass just fine. I can also say that it handles a pigeon very well as well. Yes, it caught me a pigeon while pier fishing on a trip to LA (sorry, didn't manage to get a photo of that gem). The included reel is nice. It's made from aluminum and is pretty robust. Again, not the lightest thing, but reasonably smooth and operates well. I've had no issues with it birdsnesting or wind knotting, and I've cast it in some strong winds. The bail operates well. You'll definitely want to lube the reel a bit first, though. Not a lot of lubrication out of the box and adding some oil made it quieter. The handle is swappable left to right, but it did take me some time to figure out that you don't use the cap on the opposite side of the handle to tighten or loosen the handle, but rather do it by screwing the handle itself in or out. The handle will tighten in the direction of retrieve (so, clockwise for RH retrieve, counter-clockwise for LH). The reel is not the pinnacle of spinning reel technology, but it definitely works well enough. I am perfectly happy with it. It feels solidly built, though I can't judge its long term performance yet. Probably equivalent to a good $30 spinning reel. Better than a $20 Walmart special, but not as nice as an Okuma Ceymar.Overall - I'm very happy with the combo so far. It certainly feels robust enough to land a good size bass (or an occasional pigeon), while remaining sensitive enough for dinks and panfish. I'll happily continue using it and if anything about my experience with it changes - I'll try to update this review.

Premium Feel
I'm new to fishing but this rod feels very premium and the quality and finish of the reel with the nice black and gold accents are just great. Some of guides tend to slide around a bit but it's not a big deal. I can't wait to bring this on a camping trip and enjoy the amazing portability of this thing!

Convenient and durable rod
Caught a decent sized catfish with this rod. Proven durable as the catfish was trying to dive under the pontoon I was on, the rod held onto it perfectly. The quality is good, casts smooth and a lot further than I originally expected and it’s quite sensitive to fish biting. All in all, unless I’m going for sea monsters, this will be my go to rod from now on. Just enjoy the luxury of easy set up. I used a triangle sinker and fresh prawn bait.

Great rod and reel combo
Short version for those skimming... It's awesome, I highly recommend you buy it!I purchased this Kingswell rod/reel combo to bring with me on motorcycle trips. I was looking for something small enough to fit in a saddle bag. This combo fits perfectly in a Street Glide saddle bag and I still have tons of room for my other fishing gear and clothes. It's very light and compact, while still feeling high quality casting, reeling and setting the hook. I genuinely enjoyed using this combo and look forward to using it quite a bit more on motorcycle trips. This rod and reel combo is amazing and really brings a smile to my face. The rod is light and flexible, plus it casts incredibly well. Using the exact same rig (line, leader, weight, hook, bait and float), I can cast at least 15 yards further than my Okuna 6.6ft pole. While my Okuna is shorter, that tells me I'd be able to cast the same distance as a standard (one or two piece) fishing pole. I like this one so much, I won't be buying a similar length one/two piece rod. I will be sure to update this review if I'm ever able to directly compare casting distance with a one/two piece rod of similar length.Casting this rod is nice and smooth. The rod loads and unloads well, with a good snap that really launches the rig with a nice cast. It provides a good response to the bite while fishing with faster moving jigs as well as when the bait is sitting in the water suspended by a bobber. The reel is nice and smooth, I can work jigs pretty well. I haven't had a chance to bring in a giant yet, but I have had to yank a stuck jig out of a log under water. Which is why I know this Kingswell rod and reel combo has some serious flex and lots of power.I really like the smaller reel and rod bags. The small bags keep them protected from scratches as they tumble around in my saddle bags during the ride. The plastic cover for the rod end is very protective, I accidentally dropped a 12"x7" tackle box tray on it and was so pleasantly surprised there was no damage to the end of the rod at all!The only trouble I've found so far are the zippers on the carry bag. If I move them very fast, it will slip a tooth and require extra effort to open, so I just zip them slowly now. So far everything is holding up well to repeated use. It's perfect for my desired use and really works well. I highly recommend it!To sum up, I can offer some simple logic... Some may not say this is directly comparable to the $200 one piece rod with $300 bait casting reel you see in the hand of a pro on Bass Masters, but that doesn't matter at all. It's just a solid rod and reel combo that works well to bring in fish. Whether you catch big fish is much more reliant on location/technique/bait than whether you have the most expensive rod/reel on the lake. This combo can handle big fish, whether you catch them is completely on you. :-)
