Tiny and tough.
This was much smaller than I expected but not at all disappointing. It’s seriously tiny. Very well made with great tolerances. An absolute pleasure to carry with no issues of being bothersome. A step of above many traditional folding knives that cost much more. Thick spine that tapers to a very fine refined edge that makes daily small cutting tasks a very nice experience. Disappears into the fifth pocket of a pair of blue jeans. Could be on a keychain as well. I will definitely be getting the XL version as well. Great steel for a knife in this size category. Most knives in this size category are often very unexceptional.

An Evolution of the Traditional Slip Joint Penknife in Outdoor Orange
This was Spyderco's attempt to meet the TSA's standards that never came to pass, but does meet many of the standards of countries and cities around the world who restrict what honest, law abiding citizens can carry as a pocket knife for everyday utility (of course, those intent on violence don't care). Yet, there it is and this is a result - as are the more robust UKPK, the excellent Pingo (no longer available), the Squeak, and many other SlipIt (non-locking) models from Spyderco. Spyderco makes very well engineered products and this is no exception. The blade is thick and 90 degrees at the spine (you can strike (scrape) a ferrocerium rod with it very well), has a modified sheepsfoot shape (slight belly, spine has an interesting curve - looks like a bird's head in a way), and is made from N690Co steel (which is very stainless and retains its edge very well) made in Maniago, Italy. Very sharp, too. Knife has "dimples" on either side at the front of the blade to open the blade, and a small "Spydie hole" further along the blade just because it's a Spyderco. It also has a lanyard hole. Using a lanyard and bead to "extend" the handle length, the Roadie can actually be manipulated to open with one hand (with lanyard between fingers, pinch and lift the blade at the "dimples", then push at the forefinger index choil al the base of the blade to fully open it). In my opinion the Roadie makes an excellent, non-threatening (nicely small and not-pointy), light weight, very useful, 5th pocket sized penknife. And in orange with its square spine, it makes a good backpacking buddy, even for ultralight through hikers. Much stronger and "field useful" than a SAK Classic (which definitely deserves to be in any First Aid Kit) when teamed with a small Ferrocerium rod for fire starting. The Roadie blade is definitely up to making shavings and curls to ignite if a fire is needed, and certainly cutting cordage, etc., and opening packets of food.

The next gen of pen knives
Let me preface this review. I'm a Spyderco fan, a big fan. So much so that this is my 24th Spyderco knife (the 1st I'll be reviewing, but more to follow ). I appreciate the brand for their commitment to quality, from the designs to the materials to the customer service. Before I review this knife and tell you what it can do, let me make a few comments on what it won't do. 1. It won't kill zombies. 2. It won't make you a ninja. 3. It won't make you the most tacti-kewl kid around. 4. It won't kill a bear. 5. Or a rhino. 6. It won't scare people when you pull it out in public. That last one was a big part of what I was looking for. My every day carry (edc) knife is either a paramilitary 2 or a manix 2. Both are bigger knives, and they can definitely raise an eyebrow or 3 when you pull them out in public. This little guy won't. The blade is small, but it cuts like a big boy. Hacks apart cardboard like paper. Cuts up clamshell packing without problems. It's a great knife for 90% of the cutting needs you may have. It comes in a compact size that vanishes in ANY pocket you put it in. It fits the hand perfectly. The choil makes sure you don't accidentally close the knife on yourself. The size and non-locking design keep it legal wherever you live. The steel is great- honed it up quick on my Sharpmaker when I got it, then cup up a variety of boxes, plastics and cordage for a while and could still shave hair. So is the knife worth the price? Up to you. If you're looking for a quality knife that fits the above description like I was, then I say "yes, it's definitely worth the price of admission." It doesn't replace my bigger edc knives, but it makes a great supplemental knife for almost any occasion, and a dependable blade when I can't take my other knives with me.

If it were full retail price it would be 3 stars
Underwhelmed is a good way to describe my feelings on this blade. I have never been a big fan of Spyderco's style and designs before but I've been on a bit of a nostalgic slip joint buying spree and the roadie caught my eye. Now for the 50-60 dollar price tag it's not a horrible knife. If it had been the full 80 for a knife of this size with the meh fit and finish it brings to the table I would say Spyderco should be ashamed. The bad: The blade is not even close to centered. The spring bar is not flush with the spin at any point closed it is recessed and half to full open both leave the spring bar proud. It was moderately sharp out of the box but by no means ready to slice to world. Lastly if you go by the picture it should be a nice sapphire/ royal blue. It comes a pale sort of Blade HQ Ben blue. The good: the spine of the knife is sharp enough to throw Sparks off a ferro rod like a boss which really was a nice surprise to me, it's legal to carry just about anywhere, the walk and talk of this knife is amazing, and the gimping and finger choil allow you to get pretty good purchase on this knife despite it's diminutive stature. In short, would I buy it for 80 bucks? Never ever, but for around 50 I think I have spent that much on worse products, although I feel with the following they have this is not Spyderco's best showing.
