These are very effective - I've used quite a few with no breakages, damaged threads or skewed fitting. I've found the best way to insert one is to drill the hole for the bolt (a bit deeper than the length of the insert), drill out the hole with a slightly larger bit for the insert, put the insert on a bolt whose length is such that it protrudes into the bolt hole as the insert starts to enter the larger hole, then use a driver to screw the combination in (so the bolt in its hole ensures the insert goes in straight). Once the insert is well in, remove the bolt and finish the insert off with an allen key. I found it also helps to countersink the insert hole for a smooth fitting.
