Buffalo horn dog chew, Large size

Big, heavy but does suit a dog who loves to chew
I have bought my dog a number of the hard nylon bones but she is forever losing them under furniture. I saw this and from the dimensions it should have been too big to fit under most of the places she misplaces her nylon ones. It also appealed that this is a natural product. When it first arrived it's size and shape alarmed my dog, she had never seen anything like it. After a bit of suspicious sniffing and paw-batting she settled down for a good chew.An hour or so later there was some alarming cracking noises so I checked the horn and the dogs mouth and realised that her constant chewing had softened the horn enough that she was able to get the open ends closer together and the cracking noise was in the internal structure of the horn. I have watched her carefully as I was concerned that sharp shards might break off but that has not happened. What did happen though was as my dog was chewing the wide section the pointed end poked her in her eye - a couple of times this must have been quite painful as her eye watered and she rubbed it with her paw for a few minutes. The other negative is that the horn smells quite smokey and my dog is drinking more water than normal so I am unsure if there is a lot of salt used in the processing of the horn. These two point is why I have only given 4*The dog loves it though and she has chewed it constantly for days now

Not The End!
We've bought a couple of these in the past and they have always been as shown in the photo, the pointed end section of the horn. This time it was a section from further down with two 'open ends' one of which was solid and the other was fairly thin. Our dog was soon chewing small bits off and indigesting them. We took a saw to it, cutting off around 3" down to where it thickened up, and now she can chew on it without me worrying about it splintering. If anyone is wondering, they are a little bit smelly (a bit burnt like) when they are chewing them, but it isn't too bad! We had a hoof and it had a really horrible smell!

Highly likely that this would be a good product for dogs with jaws not quite as strong ...
I was impressed when it arrived, big and heavy and looked solid. But the hollow middle enabled my Newfy X to destroy it in less than 1hr. Highly likely that this would be a good product for dogs with jaws not quite as strong as my dog's. Which probably means good for most breeds except Staffie/Bull Mastiff types. And Newfies.

Not for dogs with strong jaws
Was happy when this came as it looked the part.Give this to my 6 month old bullmastiff puppy. He has it broken inside 5 minutes and splinters off it that were as sharp as a knife.I normally don't leave feedback but this is a dangerous product to leave with the wrong dog for even 5 minutes. These are not safe for dogs and safer alternatives are available. Also puppy has been passing the few fragments he managed to break off inside the first few minutes. Causing blood in his stool and.I recommend B&M extra large natural chew bones. They are about 18inches and as thick as your arm. And my pup loves them too.Not happy with this product at all. If it was possible to give 0 stars I would

only negative is it smells a bit like cow poop
I have a large dog and this is huge, she loves it and hasn't put it down in hours, only negative is it smells a bit like cow poop, would recommend as a cheaper alternative to deer antler.

sowatch your toes in case your pooch drops it
It's very big and my Weimaraner likes it. It is almost too big and heavy, so watch your toes in case your pooch drops it.

Excellent value for money
Excellent value for money. My labradors have chewed on these since they were puppies. They last a couple of months of continual use. Perfect if your hound is a chewer, or you have to leave them unattended for short periods of time. They are a natural product, hard wearing and the dogs just love them. This is a large size and very good value for money. Postage is swift and packaging is secure without being over the top.
