I found that it has a bit more shine to it than hard muk but nothing that could be called anything other than matte. The hold is also not as long lasting as hard muk but would usually get me through a day (however I work outside so this obviously depends on weather conditions). It's also much easier to use and shape with than hard muk which I find helpful (particularly when my hair is getting a bit longer towards getting it cut).
