As far as I can see, there is no delay in turning it back on. Also, the automatic shut off gives you alternatives of 30,60,90 or 120 minutes.

Q: Does it get hot enough?

It does not get very hot. I will be returning.

Q: HOW do you unplug to wash the pad?

I had this heating pad (not purchased on Amazon). I washed it as stated, let it air dry completely before plugging the cord back into the heating pad and it did not work. I looked at the plugs inside the port and they had completely rusted.

Q: Does the controller light up when on?

There are several round LED lights that light up to indicate the level of heat and the timer length. The markings that indicate what those numbers are don't light up, so it can sometimes be hard to read, especially in low light. However, once you know the increments, it's easy to use.
