Chevy 305's are a little infamous for being difficult to get to the oil pressure sender. I tried a tester that simply screwed into the fitting and could not get it to work. A lot of cussing later, I ordered this one with the quick connect and boy oh boy was it so much easier to work with. It gave an accurate reading, but does not automatically adjust. Once you get a high pressure reading, you have to release the valve under the gauge. Use caution when doing this! If it's still plugged into the vehicle, oil will come out of that pressure release. If it's at operating temperature it could be quite hot!

This is NOT a 'heavy duty' 'shop use' kit, HOWEVER, it is great for the shade tree mechanic who is trying to verify oil pressure readings from a suspect system. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I PURCHASED THIS KIT FOR! I am an FAA licensed A&P mechanic and I had an odd oil pressure reading from one of my vehicles and wanted to verify what I was suspecting, and this kit did that job perfectly. ...it did not have to be spot on, EXACT, as that really is rarely necessary as a diagnostic tool, in any event. My use of this kit verified my suspicions and I replaced the sending unit which was slowly failing and causing erroneous low oil pressure readings. This gauge confirmed the manufacturers range of pressures for the engine in question closely enough to know that the sending unit was failing and NOT the engine driven pump or other internal failure.....thank the gods :) The only thing that is a bit of a trouble with this kit is the button that is pushed to purge air from the line and let oil run to the gauge leaks oil(ONLY) when pushed---it does have to let the air OUT, and you will need a rag to keep this from making a mess. Total accuracy of the gauge is within less than about 3psi and likely less than that but without a professional and MUCH more costly gauge to use to compare, its not possible for me to say with certainty it is less. Very happy with my purchase.
